Prime Byrd (2000-2003) vs Prime Tyson (1987-1988) would be a very interesting fight.

Perhaps Tyson would win by knockout. Perhaps Byrd would steal it on points. I think Prime Tyson was probably a bit better heavyweight, but Byrd was the better boxer overall, if that makes sense.

    No, not close.

No, he didn't. Holy won two rounds against Lennox, three at most.
And Byrd was fighting a 40+ version.

    So ?
Lennox gave Tua a worse beating.

Byrd got the W because Vitali injured his shoulder while having won just about every round.

    In your dreams.
Tyson would have sparked him in the first couple of rounds.

    - In the rematch, Holyfield won at least 4 rounds against Lewis. It was a close fight that Lewis deservedly won. Holyfield only won 3 rounds against Byrd

    - Lewis matched up with Tua better. For Byrd to cleanly beat a lighter version of a fighter that was stylistic nightmare for him is very impressive. He was in his prime that evening.

    - The Byrd vs Vitali fight was even when the latter retired. The momentum was swinging in Byrd's direction.

    - Byrd would frustrated the hell out of Tyson. Perhaps Tyson would beat him, but it could easily go the other way.

Or Chris Byrd himself. Byrd must be bored in retirement.

Byrd said that he kept calling Lewis's bluff in negotiations by accepting any deal they offered him. That's how bad he wanted the fight. Lewis then gave the belt up and released a statement saying there was no interest in a Byrd vs Lewis bout.

Byrd then beat Holyfield in late 2002 for the belt Lewis gave up. Meanwhile Lewis agreed to fight Kirk Johnson in early 2003. Why didn't Lewis fight Byrd to get his belt back? It's not like Krik Johnson was better known than Byrd.

It's quite clear that Lewis ducked Byrd. Lewis had too much to lose and knew that Byrd would give him problems.

    True.

I do understand his POV. not scared of Byrd, rather doesn't want to play chase & pot shot for 12 rounds. A fear of being outpointed, not a fear of being beaten up, yet facts are facts. Lennox avoided Byrd.

Byrd was also preparing for a much smaller opponent. He hadn't even seen Vitali fight previously.

It was probably the Byrd Man's best performance, other than his masterclass against Tua.

Whether or not Lewis ‘avoided’ Byrd is not what the thread is about, as far as I can tell.
That said, I can’t see how suffering a crushing defeat at the hands of Lewis would have helped Byrd’s somewhat already charmed ledger, anyway.

Equally, had that bout happened, Lewis would not have been served well, in terms of his own legacy, by beating Byrd - and he would have, quite easily, albeit in what is most likely to have been an unentertaining contest.

Whatever record books you’re looking at, the compilers of them must have changed the result because it wasn’t recorded as a TKO.

    RTD 9 was the result.
    You understand the difference, right?

You might want to stop buying your books from ‘Byrd Publishing’.
