Chris Eubank (1998) Vs James Toney (2003) at Cruiserweight

Toney wins by wide ud.

 

Eubank is too much dog for Toney.

 

The only way the fight wouldn't go the distance is if one man was forced to retire or the doctor stopped it because of injury since both men had granite jaws and weren't going to be stopped any other way. Personally, I think if both men turn up and perform it would be a highly entertaining fight despite the fact that both would be years out of their prime but there was always the danger in a Eubank/Toney fight of the two men's styles cancelling each other out and turning it into a snooze-fest since neither were high-out-put fighters and both preferred it when their opponent came to them rather than when they had to initiate the action themselves. Overall, however, I'd see Toney taking it in a close SD simply because he seemed to have a slightly higher out-put of punches than Eubank - Eubank prefered to pot-shot and make eye-catching flurries inbetween posturing and playing to the crowd as the showman he was while, as far as I know, Toney was more of a down-to-business style of fighter.

 

I think Toney would win in a very close fight.
I can see Eubank winning one fight if they fought a trilogy

 

Eubank backed off and did not finish opponents when he had them hurt after that, it was sad. But Toney may have been the man to push his buttons and make him come out of himself. The version of Eubank that fought against Thompson was all washed up, and for that reason though I am picking Toney for a UD win.

 

Eubank wouldn't stand a hope in hell. None. At all.

Toney does EVERYTHING better than Eubank. He even has a better chin. Eubank lost twice against Carl Thompson for God's sake. Thompson was exciting as hell, but very, very limited. This is a man who got utterly outclassed by Johnny Nelson.

Eubank vs Toney would not be a fair contest.

 

I honestly don't know why I bother with this forum sometimes.

 

Did Thompson not get outclassed by Johnny Nelson?

Does Toney not have a better chin than Eubank? Was Toney skill level not proven against better opponents than Eubank's across a range of divisions?

Help me out here. Teach me the error of my ways.

 

Toney no doubt Eubank didnt have much left in him at that time.

 

Don't forget Toney got a gift decision against Dave Tiberi, and fought the likes of Sanderline Williams and Merqui Sosa to life and death decisions. But put him in any fantasy match up and apparently he wins easy :roflatsch

As long as there's stringent drug testing in place so we can ensure Toney isn't cheating and using steroids as we know he liked to do, this is a very close and hard fight to call

 

Benn couldn't punch at 168 and was one-dimensional and frankly, stupid at 160.

Thadzi was a better pro than Schommer, who Eubank got outclassed against but somehow got the decision.

Don't go into the "who had more poor performances against poor opposition"? route. You WILL get trounced.
