After Froch's win against Bute last weekend I was wondering how long it would take for him to start bleating about his place in British boxing history. It is certainly a topic he isn't "backwards in coming forwards" about. The usual Calzaghe digs were included in addition to a general proclamation that he is the best boxer these isles have produced in the SMW division. He has even gone as far as stating he can beat Andre Ward, and that his loss last year was predominantly down to Ward having a good night. Perhaps that Bute punch in the first round was harder than we gave him credit for!

I think Carl's attitude is part of the reason the British public find it so hard to warm to him. Under-exposure obviously plays a part but Joe Calzaghe was not a terrestrial TV fighter when he won Sports Personality of the Year. As a Brit I certainly find it hard to believe a man who holds himself out to be a humble everyday hero and yet be capable of such tirades of astonishing arrogance. Chris Eubank has, himself, come out this week and chastised Froch for his lack of humility and rightly so- it isn't for Froch to say where he lies in the history of the ring.

Froch has taken a string of tough fights and his Bute victory was a deserved homecoming reward. However his lack of speed, technical ability and ring generalship means he will always struggle at the highest level. Jermain Taylor was embarrassing him until he ran out of steam. Andre Dirrell was desperately unfortunate to lose in Nottingham having outclassed Froch for large parts of the fight. Mikkel Kessler beat him in a competitive fight and will do again. Andre Ward was simply a class apart and is entitled to feel put out by Froch's dismissal of his win in December. Ward will beat Froch everyday of the week and twice on a Sunday.

Froch is a hard man with a great heart. He can rightly look back on a successful career with a great amount of pride. He has, however, not SUCCESSFULLY mixed it at the very highest level to consider himself the greatest boxer in British SMW history. And his constant proclamations of being the greatest will not help him become one of our more popular champions either.

For the record he would have comfortably lost to Joe Calzaghe and been handily dispatched by Benn, Eubank and Watson.

The problem with Froch is that he thinks the british public are stupid he says before bute fight that bute is overrated has fought nobody then after hes saying bute was an elite fighter and I wasnt at my best against ward etc etc sorry carl but when you insult peoples intellignece you aren't going to gain fans.

Froch plays on armchair fans ignorance of the sport and that's what I don't like but your average thick chav from up tut north probably thinks froch is the best ever just as deluded welsh fanboys though calzaghe was.

Hahahaha it isn't for Froch to tell everyone how good he is yet Eubank runs around telling everyone how good he is (himself that is).

Theres nothing wrong with self promotion, but when it comes to the crunch you gotta deliver.

    Both these guys delivered.

Its equally stupid to assume that Froch will automatically lose to Kessler again or Zaghes. Froch has a good chance v Kessler and ddid a good job versus him, and probably would have beaten old Calzaghe, hence why old Zaghes avoided him and the new generation of SMWs.

Why do you say that? Eubank was a 2 weight world champ who went undefeated in well over 40 fights.
Out of Eubanks 18 WBO SMW title fights 14 of those fights were against fighters who were, had been or became top 10 SMWs. One was a unification and another was against the undefeated former IBF SMW champ (relinquished his title). In fact 6 of the fighters he faced had been or became world champs.
Thats more than Froch. Eubank beat Watson, Benn, Rocchigiani, Malinga, Wharton, Holmes to name a few.
Eubank was WBO SMW champ, beat undefeated the IBF SMW champ who also became a LHW champ and drew with Benn the WBC SMW champ.

Cant see how you think Froch has done more

Froch has been underrated many a time

and has better technical skills than people give him credit for

that is all he is saying, respect him for that and give him his credit.

What new generation did Calzaghe avoid?
He beat the leader of the new generation in Kessler who holds a win over Froch. There was also Lacy deemed as the new generation.
The current scene after Ward is very weak and in Calzaghes shadow now.
Bute wouldnt fight Calzaghe or Kessler saying he wasnt ready, Froch hadnt done anything. In fact Froch didnt win a SMW world title until after Calzaghe retired and had been at a completely different weight division.
Calzaghe had been retired a few years before Ward won a SMW title.

You really dont know the facts

He held the WBO belt, it's the equivalent of the WBU belt when Hatton had it.

Eubank only had interest in the WBO belt because it meant he didn't have to make tough defenses often as all decent fighters would go after a belt that wasn't a complete joke. Even after he lost the WBO belt he only had interest in trying to regain it.

    Coward. Total coward.
