Chris Eubank JR activate rematch clause !

Hard to see the fight going differently. It wasn’t like Smith was out of this world. He had more to give as well, just stopped him as soon as he caught him.

 

It might sound crazy but I actually give him a good chance. I think he might have been burned out with all the Conor Benn stuff. With enough rest and a full camp making weight safely I wouldn't count Eubank out.

 

Can't help thinking this is a mistake by Eubank. Ego ruling the head. Chris needs to have a good rest, go back to Super Middle and take a tune up then give it one last go at 12 stone.
Smith is a tough and sometimes spiteful guy who will do him again at Middle.

 

From all accords no weight in rematch clause, so if I was Team Smith I would say it's 154, take it or leave it. Eubanks team said rematch clause was only there if he Eubank lost in a controversial decision. Well he never, he got whopped.

 

Have to disagree on this one. If he went to SMW it would be tough to get any momentum going after this loss, as the fans wouldn’t get behind him and he has a lot of haters who would forever remind him of that time Liam Smith banjoed him.

By taking the immediate rematch he can bounce back straight away, silence the detractors, and set the record straight with Smith potentially setting up a lucrative trilogy.

It’s the only fight that makes sense really, and even if he did get beat again he could still go to SMW if he wanted to continue boxing and the situation wouldn’t be much different to what it is now.

 

This reminds me of Bellew Haye 2. Haye went in as favourite in the rematch. I think Eubank will be the favourite once again

 

If I remember right Bellew was a big underdog first time, like 5/1 at least. There was also the ankle injury excuse for Haye which at the time justified his favouritism in the rematch. In hindsight though his body had broken down to the point where he was a shot fighter who had lost his reflexes and the value was on Bellew in the rematch.

Smith was more of a live dog I think he was as low as 2/1, and due to the early stoppage public opinion has shifted enough for them to have flip flopped in the betting.
If I can get 6/4 on Eubank that represents enough value for me to bet large outright.

 

If Smith had been stopped in 4 the mere mention of a rematch would be laughed at. The preferential treatment some fighters get is ridiculous

 

This is even worse than when AJ triggered the rematch clause against Usyk.

If AJ had no chance in the rematch vs Usyk then we know Eubank has even less chance in his rematch vs Liam Smith.

But then we do see the lost deluded sore losers trigger rematch clauses in fights they have no chance of winning. All because their fragile egos cannot take defeat.

I have never seen a rematch occur before when someone was blasted out early. But then there is scarcely anyone more deluded than Eubank in boxing. He probably believes all the BS about the elbow.

 

Not preferential treatment just some promoters sign shocking deals. Unless boxxer pair this with jonas vs shields or something equivalent they are going to lose a ton on the event

 

Same outcome. He's doing it for the money.

He’d make more money if he fought Conor Benn. Maybe he’ll fight Benn after the rematch.

 

I worry for Smith in the rematch. I don’t know why my only fear for the first fight was size on the night and Smith proved me totally wrong there. Everything else I knew Smith was much better at but I thought if he’d win it would be a toil and he’d get him late when tired. I’ve just got a bad feeling about a rematch, it’s the type of thing that would happen considering how conclusive the first one was. I hope I’m wrong as the fight shouldn’t even be happening. I imagine Smith had to accept the rematch clause on his side or Eubank would have refused to look for his pen. Absolute joke.

If Smith loses the rematch he’s gained no more credit than he had before it. Which is a shockingly low amount. The first fight will be seen as a fluke. Whereas if Eubank would have gone away and Smith lost to whoever for a title it would be fair dos.

 

I wouldn’t worry if I was you. Commercially it is the best option for Smith, Eubank has name value. There are probably harder fights out there that pay less.

The key take for me is Eubank has lost his durability. Smith boxed within himself but clipped him and finished him with ease. Very hard mentally to go back in a few months later with someone that has knocked you out.

Eubank should have licked his wounds and moved on. Another defeat really is a career ender. Move up to 168 and blame it on the weight probably gets him another chance.

Hopefully Smith has built in financial remuneration in line with his win in the contract.
