At 31 and being a pro for 10 years, it doesn't seem like he has really fought the best world champions in their primes. Is it business? Is he content to make a lot of money from domestic fights?
I have CEJ down as a celebrity boxer. He got opportunities he probably shouldn't have got due to his name. The same as Chavez Jr. He didnt take boxing seriously and didnt learn the craft. So yeah probably was just about making money and not being the best. Whenever he did step up he was exposed. Training with Roy Jones it looks like he might be trying to get to the next level but for me he will always lack the fundamentals. If Liam Williams sticks to boxing he could make easy work of CEJ. Although Williams is domestic level too so we will see on Saturday if Roy has made any real difference.
He likes to talk like he’s a real player on the world scene but in reality he’s stepped up to world level twice and got dealt with. He’s up for a war but he’s ducked guys too, main one being Golovkin a few years back.
I think he's taken it seriously. A lot more seriously than Julio's boy. He started somewhat late, though, and his inner circle (well, Sr. and yes-man Ronnie) overestimated and placed too much stock in the degree of natural talent he possesses and have been hostile toward people who might've been able to develop him technically. It's telling that when Chris Jr. finally does settle with a trainer, after around a decade as a pro, it's a guy like Jones Jr., who really hasn't shown much aptitude for the craft outside of teaching guys to fight like deeply inferior versions of his twenty-something self.
