Jeff Lacy has no reason whatsoever to put his money on Mikkel - unless he actually truly believes that Kessler will win.
There was an interview I read a couple of months ago where Lacy picked Kessler. To paraphrase, he said 'it's close, but I think Kessler will be too strong'
I'm from Montreal and I hear that both Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute think Calzaghe will win while their trainers Ramsay and Larouche think otherwise. I might have Bute and his trainer mixed up as far as the prediction go.
Kessler is fundamentally better than Joe. Kessler has better balance , Joe falls forward quite a bit in all of his fights . Joe is a good fighter to be sure . His calculated swarming style has worked for him but he does leave himself vulnerable too often against an accurate puncher like Kessler. Joe will commit from distance once to often and Mikkel will time him with straighter punches. Joe has the faster hands yes and throws from odd angles. I think those are his only advantages. Kessler has better power in both hands, less fragile hands and his more disciplined conventional boxing style will win out. I believe Kessler will use hooks to good effect in this fight. Kessler ain't a pudgy Manfredo or a limited Bika , he is the real deal . Kessler TKO round 9
I'm 100% sure Bute picked Mikkel. If his trainer picked Joe that's great. I never listen to current boxer's predictions - they always have a motive for their pick.
I agree with Eubank in the sense that Calzaghe's usage of angles, ability to get inside, and fire off fast combinations in close will get him the victory. But I don't agree with him that Kessler is ordinary. Sure he is a stand-up fighter, but he is truly an excellent fighter - aside from Calzaghe, I don't think anybody at 168 beats him.
Dude - Eubank is a proven nutcase. Basing the outcome of a fight on a Eubank statement is fatal. Dont ever bet money on Eubank predictions.
First, I respect Eubank's opinion, but I find it amusing that he refers to Kessler as the guy with the tattoo's.
Just my words, I guess. If Joe can get in on a half-distance he could trouble Kessler with his fast hooks combos mixed with uppercuts. But Kessler simply will not allow Joe to get in on him. Footwork and straight left jabs combined with hooks and his overhand right will eventually win it for Kessler. But the fight might go all 12 rounds. :bbb
