1 Eubank 2 Eubank 3 Eubank 4 Eubank 5 maybe draw 6 draw 7 Eubank 8 Carl 9 Carl 10 draw 11 Carl 12 Eubank I am sure the guy with the Eubank PFP is unbiased absolutely. Honestly, watching this fight again I thought Chris made it clear- He really speared the Cat posturing, feinting and being err "Showy" Chris stole the early rounds handily. What can be counted against him is consistently covering up. Nothing big was making it through in the early to mid rounds. Not enough to count against him anyways in my eyes. though late it became an issue and the rabbit punches where an eye sore when it got sloppy. Chris did stun Carl big multiple times throughout though, bad enough that it sent carl across the ring though Chris seemingly just initiated a starring contest perhaps? "If I couldn't take a man out with a single shot I would take a decision, I would not beat a man into submission" He said something to that effect anyways. This was a match between a Rapier and a mace great fight and Eubank clearly needed to lick his wounds but I can't see a reasonable win for Thompson do you?
It's a long time back now, not watched it since. But I remember thinking Eubank had just nicked it, really close. Was a little shocked that Thompson got it, but luck of the draw in boxing. Remember Chris was fortunate to get the Draw with Benn. I scored that for Nigel but at least they didn't give it to Eubank.
I do think he lost the Benn fight and so does Chris. Seems as though Carl recognized the loss "This wasn't Carl Thompson tonight I need to go back watch the film and see my mistakes" Not exactly the words of someone confident in the win.
I've only seen this fight once years ago, when I was going through Chris Eubank's career. From my memory I had Thompson edging it by a point or two. Eubank started off really strong in the first 4 rounds. He looked better than he had in years, putting combinations together looking very sharp. But after that I remember Thompson coming on, as Eubank seemed to get weaker. As the naturally bigger man "Thompson" just wore Eubank down in the later stages. I also remember Eubank rocking Thompson early on, and frustratingly he held back on trying to finish him. Similar to what Eubank did in the Steve Collins fight, probably because of the Michael Watson tragedy. Overall it was a great fight, and Eubank showed alot of heart and bravery.
Eubank won everything until his eye shut, looked a class apart. Think I had Eubanks winning come the end.
Looks like I'm going to be the awkward one here with my agreeing with the decision. But here we go: Chris Eubank v Carl Thompson I Round 1: 10-9 Eubank Round 2: 10-9 Eubank Round 3: 10-9 Thompson Round 4: 10-8 Eubank (scores a knockdown) Round 5: 10-10 Even Round 6: 10-9 Thompson Round 7: 10-9 Thompson (Eubank blew it! He had him and just stared at him. That is a moment in time that should justifiably haunt him) Round 8: 10-9 Thompson (best round of the fight) Round 9: 10-9 Thompson Round 10: 10-9 Thompson Round 11: 10-9 Thompson Round 12: 10-9 Thompson Total: 116-112 Thompson At times it looked like a boy against a man, the size difference was that much and Eubank's corner would have been justified to pull him out late in the fight due to him floundering the last four rounds with the handicap of the closed left eye. But still, whatever one can say about Eubank, he had heart and I found myself screaming at the screen to 'get in there'.
I might have to watch this again sometime, seeing how quite a few people in this thread thought Eubank edged it. But the feeling I had when I watched it few years ago, was that Thompson clearly won the fight. Despite Eubank dominating the first 4 rounds. If my memory serves me right I don't think Eubank won a round after the 6th round.
Instead of Thompson, I wanted that Dariusz fight at lh at that time. Chris was #1 rated and I wanted to see that match & not the Thompson fight.
Chris Eubank vs Carl Thompson 1 1 Eubank 2 Eubank 3 Thompson 4 Eubank 10-8 knockdown 5 Even 6 Thompson 7 Eubank 8 Thompson 9 Thompson 10 Thompson 11 Thompson 12 Eubank 114-114 Draw So after watching this fight again years later this is how i had it, i think rounds 5, 6, 7, were all debatable rounds and close enough where opinions could be divided.
