Eubank all the way, as concrete as Wayne was. Fighters not being knocked down is surely more to do with neck strength and even more so core strength? Didn't Collins push Eubank down square with a body shot? Eubank took Benn's right hands and right uppercuts, the shots that put Iran Barkley over. Tommy Hearns' right hands and right uppercuts couldn't put Iran over so Benn obviously hit harder than Hearns. Sugar Ray Robinson didn't hit as hard as Benn or as fast as Calzaghe, and was a blown up featherweight. Not saying LaMotta or Hagler didn't have above average chins, but to compare their opponents' punches with Benn, a 13st Calzaghe and 15st Thompson is plain silly. Toney was down and hurt enough times against Reggie Johnson and Roy Jones, and was never caught flush with the shots that Eubank withstood from Benn. When he fought Holyfield and Peter he was on anabolic steroids and growth hormone, the steroids increased his neck thickness and the growth hormone increased his skull thickness.
Have to go with "The Pocket Rocket"! Tho Eubanks granite chin cannot be disputed, he was knocked down approx 5 times in his career?
Hagler was clearly stunned against Hearns in the first ten seconds! When was Eubank that stunned against Amaral?? Donell Wigfall had Hagler badly rocked, and Eugene Hart had Hagler covering up for a couple of minutes after landing some shots. Roldan had him down. 1946-09-12 : Jake LaMotta 167 lbs beat Bob Satterfield 164¾ lbs by KO at 1:50 in round 7 of 10 Location: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois, USA Referee: Davy Miller Satterfield held LaMotta on even terms in the early rounds, having his best moment in the 4th round, when he "shook LaMotta to his heels" with a right hand. Satterfield did not follow up though, and LaMotta began to take over the bout. In the 6th round, LaMotta chased Satterfield across the ring with a sustained attack. In the 7th, a left to the armpit appeared to stagger LaMotta. Satterfield soon showed signs of weariness, as he dropped his hands, and began to be pounded by LaMotta who landed at will on him. A left hook to the jaw, sent Satterfield to his knees, where he fell on to his back, to be counted out by referee Dave Miller. Toney's exquisite shoulder roll allowed him to evade most of those heavy cumbersome blows of Sosa and Barkley, the only two 'punchers' he fought in his prime.
Don't forget DeWitt stood up to Tommy's punches too but crumbled to Benn's fists. Collins indeed caught Eubank square-on with a lunge to the chest.
Eubank was knocked down seven times in his career. Against Tim Brown, Greg George, Benn, Watson, Collins and Calzaghe x2. But, the Brown, Benn and Calzaghe second KD's were clearly slips, and the George and Collins KD's were clearly shoves. He fought Benn, Watson and Collins in other fights without being close to going down. The only two legitimate KD's in his career were Watson and the Calzaghe first KD. It took Watson 750+ power shots to get him to a knee - after which he rose before the referee even began his count and ended Watson's career with the next punch! Calzaghe caught him cold after 15 seconds with a shot from an angle he couldn't see - he rose before the referee even began his count, with a big grin on his face saying something to Calzaghe and nodding!
Admiring the Eubank knowledge! I do love the face he makes after smoking joe puts him on the seat of his pants, even when the ref is counting and he's standing back up but still nodding and smiling.... I remember him saying that the punch did hurt him...so of puts the myth of Joe having no power to bed 750 power shots in 24 rounds with Watson?
I think Hagler was hurt pretty seriously by Mugabi. But Marvin did what he said he would do in that situation: fight through it. If he hadn't, Mugabi would have won that night. Can you imagine the confidence he would have felt if Hagler had shown that the punches were hurting him? There were signs that Hagler was bothered considerably. He didn't throw his left hand laser-straight as he usually did; he looped it, to get his head out of the way of counters. He went from leftie to orthodox constantly, and I think that was due to Mugabi's body punching risking doubling him over for an uppercut.
Ok lets be clear about this, The Calzaghe knock down was against a shot Eubank who got up within about a second of the knock down and started laughing at him. Having a good chin is not just about staying on your feet but your powers of recovery.. P.S please rewatch the fight ....he got up in a second wasn't hurt at all
He stated b4 that shot did hurt him, one of the best shots he's been hit with, think he said it on ringside when he was wearing a beige suit with pink tie I agree with ur comment about kd's tho, can be a balance thing when the fighter gets hit
He had a decent but inconsistent jab, and his lateral movement could be top quality. That's it. No seriously, that's really it. The man is the biggest charalatan in British boxing history. And that's in a country with Messrs Audley and Scott Harrison. Also, there is no possible justification for stating that Eubank had a better chin than McCullough. The arguments for Eubank are a joke. Now Eubank did have superb recuperative ability. His chin, while very good, was NOT on the same level.
