Nobody, but its not exactly like he has been offered the chance, and has turned it down. Lets keep our minds open for now.
Based on what I see and perceive by intuition, I think that GGG is something special in his ability to deal as hurtful a blow that I have seen in a middleweight in my lifetime. Of course he hasn't fought the caliber of quality of MWs as others of the past has. No question about it, but no one can be faulted for picking the time of their birth I believe. In over 300 amateur bouts, and in his short pro career Golovkin has never been floored, and combined with his deadly body shots and long range accurate and power blows to the head, GGG is a deadly punching middleweight force to be reckoned with for a long time, and physically stronger than most fans of today reckon with I firmly believe. Time will tell as with all active fighters...
Eubank sr... When GGG BEATS a calibur fighter of a Michael Watson, or a Nigel Benn, then we will re-evaluate....
Give it up. You cant beat them if there not there. Sergey KRUSHER Kovalev could have one the best resumes in boxing by the end of 2015, with cleverly, hopkins, pascal and stevenson. But he wont be given credit by anyone here.
a fighter like Golovkin would have brought out the best in Eubank. You would really see Golovkin's chin and ability to track down an elusive outfighter\counterpuncher tested here. Could well be he would fold first in a drawn out war if he can't take advantage of Eubank's stamina.Tszyu vs cool vince style.Hard to say yet, but i don't think this is a good match for Golovkin no matter what he goes on to do.A textbook seek and destroy guy like him that fights at a medium pace and with solid but not great skills is in for a long night.
Like most here I'd like to wait and see, but Benn clearly beat Eubank in the rematch IMO and Watson could have had a draw in their first fight and was of course winning the rematch until that uppercut. Don't know if either were better than Golovkin (probably not), but different types of fighters, of course. But I can really see Golovkin doing a number on Eubank's body and thereby pull away on the last stretch. But who knows.
$$$^^^ Well said. GGG beat a who's who of amateur stars that went professional Bute ( KO ) , Lee, and Dirrell and finished up with a 345-5 record. That's amazing, and proves he's a skilled operator in the ring thats very hard to outpoint.
Kovalev will fight anyone, and has beaten the best. By the end of 2015, I think Kovalev will have proven enough to crack the top 20-25 of all time at the light heavyweight division. In 2016 I want to see Kovalev vs Beterbiyev. I favor Beterbiyev.
Golovkin's record is already no worse than that of Monzon's and Hagler's. ______ Who did Hagler beat? aged overstuffed Duran? Triumphant thumb vs that overhyped Argie? Hearns whom was stopped 3 times before turning 30? ________ Who did Monzon beat? past it smaller Napoles and Griffith? Hand injured Valdez after still getting floored by him? Got to be Briscoe, but how big was that win? Probably not as big as the margin in scores in Argentina. _________ Golovkin's opponents were no worse. As hyped as Duran was, was he a better opponent @ 160 than Kassim Ouma's version that Golovkin stopped? Golovkin is usually the 1st stoppage loss on his opponents' record, and they were the best @ his weight that agreed to fight him and not any worse than Hagler's or Monzon's opponents h2h. ____________ Benn and Watson are vastly overrated too.
that's what i think. We haven't really seen GGG tested yet, but if hes as good as people say then hed beat Eubank possibly by decision. But with Eubanks chin, skillset and savvy, i don't see a stoppage.
Hes definitely a superstar in the making. What i really want to see is GGG vs Ward. GGG definitely can punch and his chin is granite, to my knowledge hes never been stopped? according to Abel Sanchez, even Kovalev was running during their sparring sessions.
Never been stopped ? Hell in all 300 or more amateur bouts and his pro career GGG has never been DROPPED.... I have been unfairly accused of favoring the "oldtimers" of my youth [1940s] because of their 100s of bouts against the best of the best....BUT when I see a great talent as a Duran, Ray Leonard, Arguello, Sergei Kovalev, and my new man Gennady Golovkin, it is because of their special talents given to them by nature that transcends when they were born and the era they fight in...And GGG though not a Clay/Ali type of braggadocio would give any middleweight I ever saw a tough, tough time in the ring...What more can he do today when all the MW pretenders avoid him like the plague ?. That man is GOOD...
I am thinking GGG is a special fighter but we have to see how that translates when he unifies and fights the best in his era. GGG will fight anyone but they are not lining up to fight him. I am impressed with him as I was with Duran,Tyson,SRL,Chavez,Floyd,Pac in recent times so based on my expectations I would expect a dominant victory over Eubank Sr. What I like about GGG is that he goes to the body and head so well and finds pin-point openings. When he fights Cotto,Alvarez,Chavez Jr.Kid Chocolate we will get a better idea of how dominant he is. My thinking now is he can stop anyone.
