Climbing ropes for grip strength? And then eating sugary sweets before bed? A) He isn't a Wrestler B) His blood-sugar levels were no doubt all the place then The last thing a Boxer needs to work on is his grip. That's for grapplers.
I suppose it helped his fist clench? I imagine the sweets were a fast acting carb source that restored his glycogen levels.
There was actually a study done correlating grip strength to success in boxing. If you don't have a strong grip, forces are dissipated at the point of contact. The same way grip strength in baseball has a high correlation with ball velocity off the bat. Sugar after exercise decreases cortisol and increases serotonin, that's why people on low carb diets often have trouble sleeping. Some other things Eubanks says/does are completely stupid but not those things.
I can't think of a single reason a strong grip isn't beneficial for boxing. I think it definitely contributes to heavy-handedness, particularly noticeable in guys who are more on the thin side.
I dunno why folk expect to read a full and frank explanation from athletes about how they train on the net. If it was me I'd show glimpses of what I do and make the rest available to buy. Not that there's any great mystery. Most boxers work very hard, but tend to train in a fairly mundane, unimaginative way. You'd expect Eubanks to be a bit different, of course. :yep
If you can punch hard, you can lunch hard. Grip work won't mean jack. @ dealt_with - Why not have fruit instead of sweets? Many more benefits than gummy bears.
More along the lines of guys that have a naturally strong grip are more inclined to be heavy handed. A strong grip is supposedly a good indicator of overall body strength.
