I think talent wise he is definitely in the conversation. I'd pick him to beat Hopkins prime for prime

Eubank was/is eccentric for sure, no reason it shouldn't carry over to his all time middleweight pick. For most fight fans James won't be found in their top ten or fifteen all time lists.

Mind you, he did beat Nunn and McCallum, off the floor to beat Reggie Johnson etc.

Dave Tiberi is my #1 middleweight of all-time but Toney would probably make the top 5. :good

Robbed, and never fought again. I think Toney has actually admitted that Tiberi beat him.

Toney was one of those fighters who had so much but was missing that one thing to take him from being very good to great. Work ethic, in the ring and in the gym. He was lazy as hell and paid the price for it. Between being fat as a pig and the lazy performances that got him losses to guys like tiberi and thadzi who were a good two levels below him in talent and class he cant even come close to top ten in boxings deepest division.

Toney is, to me, the all time tools guy (Tua is another). What I mean by that is, if you look at Toney ' s skills in isolation he seems perfect, or pretty close. Maybe the best counter puncher I've seen, great chin, slick defense, quick hands, solid punch, didn't cut, good against southpaws, carried his power late. Timing. I could go on and on but while on paper he is unstoppable the reality of the situation is that Toney took rounds off (sometimes whole fights) and just seemed to not give a ****. When he was on it was beautiful but often he half asset his way through fights and got by because he was so good. What a waste of serious talent.

The greatest middle weight of all time wouldn't loose to the likes of Dave Tiberi.

When Toney was "on" he gives anyone in history a hard fight @ middle, and would be capable of beating some ATG's...but as pointed out in the above posts his consistency was lacking...and that is part of the equation.

absurd argument. ken norton is the number 1 but ali makes the top 5... jimmy young is the number 1 but foreman makes the top 5...

Anybody can lose/beat anyone on a given night. Recognizing this is one of MMA's strengths.

Did mozon and Hagler ever loose to a Dave Tiberi type fighter in their prime
