At 175lbs. Dennis the naturally bigger man but Chris fought for world championships at Middle,Super Middle and Cruiser - did n't win at the highest weight category but gave the Champion two competitive fights - so he could definitely have been effective at Light Heavy.
Andries gets a raw deal in someways, and he did in the 1980s.. People thought Hearns handpicked him because he was no good, but he beat Harding and Czyz and did win the title I think 3 times.. He was not a bum. Strong awkward fighter. Not the best, but he did beat Czyz... regardless of excuses.
Good case for both men winning this one in my opinion. Would be a close one. Eubank could outbox Andries but much would depend on whether the former could hang on during the last couple of rounds when Dennis would be going all out.
Good question. I can see arguments for both, but for me Andries is the favourite here. He's got the established record and experience at the higher weight. I could see Eubank outboxing him at points, especially earlier, on but Andries was more than capable of responding and maintaining sustained pressure. He has a very good chance of outlasting and grinding him down. Andries either by points or a very late stoppage. No slight on Eubank either. As PernellSweetPea said Denis Andries never got his due, unfortunately still does not.
Nice one Stevie. Would be a rough un I think. I see Chris winning the majority of fight, puts on a great display against the more akward Andries. B But I believe Andries can come on strong and cause a stoppage in the last couple of rounds. Would be bloody entertaining, mate!
Definitely....most definitely did n't get his due. That old story of Frank Bruno and Dennis arriving at the airport at similar time is running through my mind. Frank had just lost to Mike Tyson - a gutsy performance but a losing one all the same and he got mobbed coming through Arrivals. Dennis meanwhile had just regained the world light heavy title from Mark Willis. The winner slipped through virtually unnoticed.
Exactly. The story of him turning up at Kronk (and all that entailed) and asking Steward to train him after being dismantled by Thomas Hearns speaks volumes about the man.
Tough fight to predict. Eubank substantially more skilled & Andries significantly bigger. Eubank Snr could be outworked by fighters who could withstand his power. I suspect Eubank would win the early rounds, outboxing Dennis. I doubt either would KO the other, but it's possible Eubank would land so many clean shots that Andries would sustain facial damage that could see him at risk of being stopped. Otherwise, I think he'd outwork Eubank in the 2nd half of the fight and it would be a close one going to the cards.
