Providing Minter does n't get too reckless and allows Eubank to cut him,I see him being too busy for Chris. Minter UD in 12 or 15.
I voted Eubank decision but actually I think he could knock Minter out. AM was never a exceptional fighter. The best fighter he fought - Marvin Hagler - totally destroyed him, as did Tony Sibson, a better fighter than Minter. His crowning moment was taking the title from a on-the-slide Antuofermo. Eubank's toughness and movement mean its hard for Minter to catch up with him, land and hurt Chris. Also at 160lb Eubank was a terrific hitter, power that he lost jumping up to super-middleweight. Stoppage win for Eubank in the mid to late rounds.
I wouldn't say that, he was holding his own with Hagler before he go the cut eye, and was actually winning on one scorecard.
Alan Minter on points for me - as long as he didn't get over-excited and/or cut. Minter was a classy boxer, much under-rated on these boards. If he chose to, I believe Minter would beat Eubank with his jab alone, or just classy in & out boxing. He could also box at a pace that Eubank would not be comfortable with. Minter was also a better puncher than often given credit for, and his chin was sound. I could see Alan making Chris look very clumsy. I don't think Eubank would connect cleanly enough & often enough to stop Minter...the Sibson fight was Minter's last fight and, more to the point, was post-Hagler, and Minter was not the same after the Hagler fight. It should be remembered that outside of the knockdown/push against Antuofermo, Minter was never on the floor until the final fight of his career against Sibbo. I also think Kevin Finnegan would have given Eubank fits & probably beaten him on points...
Agree that gets stated to often on here and then regurgitated by the masses (not that I think Minter was in control, nor would have won). I am a longtime Minter fan, but don't believe he would beat Eubank....This might be a cool fight to watch. @ 160, I think Eubank would be to strong and to quick....I picked Eubank decision, but wouldn't rule out a late stoppage.
Minter gets a decision. But Eubank is dangerous with that wild over hand right. Would like to have seen this fight, both in prime.
I think this would be a destruction for Eubank. Eubank wasn’t in the same day era and still had spiritual agony trying to make weight. He would’ve been a big man in the same day era. I’d guess 175lbs? 180lbs? Too big and good enough to win.
An on the slide Antuofermo? Who fought a draw with Hagler just 4 months before? Then Minter battered Antuofermo into submission in the return 4 months later? This is virtually a 50/50 fight for me, Minter is very underrated on here. He moved well had a good southpaw jab and could hurt and be venomous with his punches. If he concentrated on his boxing and resisted the temptation of getting into a slugfest with the stronger but less busier Eubank he could pull this off.
Eubank might get outworked but I think he'd do the hurting. Jaw/power combo a little too much for Minter to me. Eubank might not get him out of there but he would hurt/dominate and repeat often enough to get a clear win. If outworking a guy of Eubank's capabilities was the route to victory I think Nigel Benn of all people would have taken a clear W (he maybe did but you know what I mean).
