Like i said in other post he, Zolt Erdey and felix Sturm are 3 of the most protected jokes of the sport, they mean nothing.
The Pac and JMM nuthuggers say John got a hometown decision, but the rest of us who have actually watched the fight know that John won, once you account for the deductions. Can't say he was protected by the judges either - the judges for that fight were American, Japanese and Thai, respectively, and the ref was Panamanian - and all three scored it at least 7-5 in terms of rounds in favor of John, plus two points deducted from JMM. I can see an argument for 6-6 or maybe even 5-7 in favor of JMM, but even 5-7 would have still been a draw. In any case, John is a quick defensive fighter. Former Wushu champion, super quick reflexes, fights off his back foot, pops in for a jab or a flurry, then pops back out. Good power, but due to his style, he almost never uses it, but he gets a lot of flash knockdowns. Through a couple years ago, he had a solid resume, with wins over JMM, Gainer, Cheo Rojas, Oscar Leon, etc., but has mostly been fighting mandatories and chumps on his home turf lately. I doubt we'll see too much of him stateside for a few reasons. First, he's making good money fighting nobodies at home. Second, his style isn't very exciting, almost more like an amateur boxer than a pro boxer. Third, he'd probably lose if he fought in the US, simply because American judges don't tend to score his style well (whereas Asian and German judges would probably score him very well because he usually lands the cleaner shots even though he has a low workrate).
He's left his home country more than Joe Calzaghe :deal Just because he doesn't fight in America doesn't mean he doesn't leave Indonesia. He's fought an Australian in Australia and a Japanese in Japan. He's also beaten 5 former beltholders. People just assume he has a shitty resume because they haven't heard of the names before, but he's beaten some decent fighters, often on their home turf.
I don't necessarily disagree. John doesn't have the best chin in the world, and I doubt he could deal with Gamboa's speed/pressure combo. Gamboa probably KOs John early, and the haters would just dismiss John as a fraud.
