If Chris John is only average, I shudder to think what we would call this thread.

I have John in my top 20 p4p. he fought very well sick last night and even if you scored the marquez fight for marquez you have to admit it was extremely close.

Agreed. John may not be p4p elite but I view him as rather exceptional.

Based on his performance last night.....i consider him a good, not great, but a good fighter.

If he had KO power, that would've helped him tremendously as he's an accurate puncher, and his defense could be better but overall he's a good fighter.

However, if he remains fighting in america i don't see him being a champion for too long unless he makes some adjustments.

Very good Champ. Again, I mentioned somewhere else, he was coming back from a virus or cold three days before the fight. So that could blind alot of us who have never seen him fight on how better he can perform. I was impressed with his skills and Rocky did a hell of a job. I heard he does not want to unify due to all these mandatories he would get from all the belts. Have any of you posters heard the same?

Chris John is above average, but I won't call him an elite fighter.

Yes. He is average, for a world champion. Not average in an absolute sense.

Please read the initial post more closely.

He's a good fighter, but he's no elite, and never has been.

Couldn't you have just said he's a good fighter instead of trying to twist some sort of "average" argument into this?

John is a good fighter but not a P4P Top 10 or anything like that. Still a guy I'd like to see more of on TV.

This is where we should all agree.

Chris John is a good fighter but falls short in skill level to be considered a major force.

Rocky Juarez, who is also a good fighter, failed to win because of his shortcomings. He doesn't throw enough punches, doesn't follow up when his opponent gets caught flush, and doesn't have the foot work to follow moving targets.

I see Chris John equal to Steven Luevano in skill level and lucky for him, Juarez was not the best the featherweight division had to offer that night. Had it been Soto, Linares, or even Gamboa in the ring he would have visited the canvas.

Defo a prob for any of the fighter's in his Wt. Class.
(He has length & uses it very well, Takes a good shot aswell)

I hope we get to see dude fight on more cards here.
(Against other champions or contender's, But pay him..)
