Now I think a lot of the guys on here have got the wrong impression of Chris John because Marquez was suppposedly robbed in their fight. People believe that, as it was a hometown decision in Indonesia. I dont think many have actually seen the fight.

It was a very close fight that I had John winning - just. Take time to watch a few of his fights. He is to my mind bordering elite.

1.) I don't think he's underrated and I hate that term as well as overrated. He's got a smaller (or a non-existent) fanbase here and he is VERY VERY unknown.

But those who know him don't underrate him at all.

I think he defeated Marquez by 1-2 points. You could say that the biggest enemy of Marquez was his company to let him fight on the other side of the world for a prize of a pizza but that doesn't make any difference regarding the fight: John won that fight.

A rematch in the US would be cool. Of course that would be a disadvantage for John but he should travel to the US if GBP is ready to pay him around 500k or a little bit more.

Of course NEUTRAL judges would be the most important thing as we don't want another Casamayor-Santa Cruz.

I think he will be beaten by Jorge Linares, and since John has fought in Japan and Linares trains in Japan, a matchup between the two is very likely.

I like John. He's a quick and elusive little bugger. There are a few guys that I think would have no problem with him, but unfortunately John is not marketable so we probably won't see him with any real live bodies any time soon im guessing

Well, Linares is one hell of a p4p prospect so a fight between the two would be a very hard one to predict. Linares is awesome, a few good fights and a win over John (which would be a hell of a job to get) would be enough to get him to the p4p list. That's true to John too, he just has to step up in competition. A fight against Marquez at SFW or Linares at FW would be the one.

Agreed. He just better stay away from Guzman, who I think would murder him

ask divac and red manure about jmm vs john fight, they will say it was a robbery

it is so unfortunate that the john vs jmm fight is often overlook by the jmm fans and the pachaters. :-( their manly love for jmm lead to the point that jmm won the fight where in fact john schooled jmm :good
well that is the fighting spirit right there.

as i have said many many times, jmm's only claim for fame was an injured pac after the first round. Mention chris johns name and all the jmm fans will hide their ass .. :deal

JMM's win or lose with PAC. I would love to see cj vs jmm 2
It would be nice to have a jmm vs cj 2 to once and for all prove that the first win was no fluke! :good

When I first heard that Chris John had beaten Marquez, I thought that someone had unleashed a new beast in the featherweight division. I mean the guy who had drew with Pacquiao and displayed a great amount of skill had just been beaten by a nobody.

Heck I was able to download a decent copy of Chris John - Marquez and was expecting CJ to be a highly skilled killer.

To my surprise, there was nothing special to Chris John, obviously he was falling short in the fight with Marquez, I believe I only gave him 2 or 3 rounds. For half the fight he was moving back avoiding Marquez in the big ass ring, probably the biggest I have seen being used for boxing. One of the 2 low blows was dubious as it clearly had hit the belt line and the local ref still deducted a point. And alas the robbery was anouced at the end, a home town decision.

My guess is that Chris John has been able to keep a clean record by never leaving his back yard and being given decisions.

Once this guy steps out of Asia and faces a decent caliber fighter he will take an L, which he will probably do just to cash out. Despite what the Pac nuthuggers say, CJ is nothing spectacular and will fall short of becoming elite.

He's overrating I think judging by all the posts I read what people think about him.
I personally also think he is overrated, he is not that good at all.

Conclusion: he should not be overrated nor underrated. He is a solid fighter, nothing more nothing less.

He is a highly skilled fighter and rightly is placed at number 13 on my P4P.

    He's an amazing fighter.

imo John vs Linares could be the best fight of the year.

They had neutral judges in the first fight (American, Japanese and Thai). All three, including the US judge, gave it to John. JMM was more aggressive and the harder puncher, but John was much more accurate and landed more shots. I can see where some people might have scored it close for JMM, but to say it was a robbery is asinine (it was a close fight no matter what), and to say JMM dominated is blind nuthuggery.

As soon as Gamboa will be his mandatory, Chris John has to leave Indonesia or vacate his belt...
