Joel Brunker has advised Aus-Boxing.com that Chris John’s management team has cancelled their fighters bout with the Australian Featherweight which was due to take place at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel & Casino in Singapore on March 31st, 2012 with the WBA Featherweight title on the line.

An agreement had been reached in contract form on the 14th December 2011 and the fight was sanctioned to take place in Singapore.

“Negotiations for this bout started about 2 weeks prior to the signing of the contract”, said Brunker’s manager Angelo Di Carlo. “Joel was already booked to fight on the Daniel Geale undercard but that position has now been lost.”

Last week Brunker’s Di Carlo received a phone call off Chris John’s manager who told him that the fight could possibly be cancelled on the basis of ‘betting purposes’ as the venue wanted to see an Asian boxer in the other corner to secure the highest possible returns with regards to betting.

At 10.05am on Thursday January 17, 2012-Di Carlo received a call from Chris John’s management team to say that this fight had indeed been cancelled and that a new date would possibly be scheduled for Joel in the future.

Di Carlo told Aus-Boxing that it was initially John’s management that approached the Australian for the fight.

In an interview with Aus-Boxing Brunker said, “It is totally unprofessional and disrespectful to entice me out of other arrangements, agree to the term and conditions of the contract and after I sign on the dotted line a month later tell me the fights off.”

“This move by John’s management has caused me to miss out on a spot I had for the upcoming Daniel Geale undercard, which I was prepared to do under the obligations of the contract we both agreed upon in December 2011.”

“It is back to the drawing board for us. I have lost out on so many opportunities from other promotions so I could commit myself to the Chris John fight. We will continue to chase the hard fights in our quest for a world title shot.”

    G,day all .........

i was just reading this post and it is hard to not reply or comment due to the missunderstanding by all concerned.....

i understand joels/angelo,s pain but i also understand the effort that went in behind scenes for this fight to take place......

i am well aware of the efforts of the johns management and craig christian for this fight to take place without sucess.........

craig was and is genuine when he offered joel the oppertunity to get a crack at the WBA super champ and should be praised for this .not looked down on for his efforts..........

    the problem is and was

    (1) joel was and is not rated by WBA in which craig did his best to get a rating or exzanption..also joels is not and was rated by PABA as it is the officail WBA reginal...this was the reason for some form of contract...and the decision to promote rateing was denied......

    (2) the promotion people (promotor) who are paying the bills did ask for a asian boxer for various reasons.....even tho johns mangement claimed that it was too late for such boxer to take place.....promotor refused johns managements claims and so they can........... as they are promoting the event and paying the bills........ not johns management....it is a shame but it is also a realaity

it is a shame for joel and a shame to his management aswell as a huge effort for the johns camp to make this happen without sucess....but it is my understanding that craig still has offered joel the oppertunity to fight johns down the road but after he gets rated by the WBA or atleast by the PABA..........

but it is also know to me that due to the efforts by all concerned that craig christian has gone to the extra yard and made approaches for joel to still get his chance at a world title fight that he so rightly deserves .....

.the only problem is it is against daud jordon from indo for the IBO featherweight title...........

i am not sure of full details or whats is taking place but i think this would be a great oppertunity for joel as he continues to be one of our next world champians and so he should be as angelo has stated he does not dodge anyone and represents all of us and himself proud......

i just hope that this fight takes place.....as the offer is there for the taking and should not be declined............

aus boxing mate ............the casino is the promotors ........change of venue ........not likley

    cheers linc image

So Chris John will fight and beat whoever. And John will then fight the winner of Yordan v Brunker in a unification fight in Indonesia?

So this Brunker fellow couldn't pass himself off as half-pinoy or half-Indo (or let himself be tagged as such in a press release) just to play ball?

edit: no. No, I suppose not.

Fark, if heath ellis is always refered as the Philo-Aussie in the media (mostly by Ronny Nath) im sure Joel could pull something off.

Should'nt Joel be fighting someone in the top 100 featherweights first, before a title fight.
