I was just looking at JMM's record, and noticed that back in 2006 he was beaten (at 125 lbs) by a guy named Chris John, whom I had never heard of. Somehow he flew under my radar. (OK, I don't spend every waking hour watching fights, like some of you guys!) So I look up chris John, and holy cow.... 46-0, with wins over Marquez, Rocky Juarez, and a whole bunch of fighters I also never heard of. Is this guy the business, or were most of his opponents bums? Was the win over JMM (held in his home of Indonesia) a BS decision? And why isn't he more well known? (or is it just me?)
He's a very good fighter who I think has promotional or contract issues. He's never left Indonesia (at least I think that's where he's from) and doesn't land any big or significant fights. Not sure why that is so I imagine its contract issues or its the fact that he has no problem with only being I paper title holder. Shame cause he is the goods...
Very good stand-up boxer, elusive with a lovely jab. Fights mostly in Asia & doesnt get the same coverage as guys based in Europe/America. His style was all wrong for Marquez & John deserved the win.
Registered since June 2011 and only just even heard the name Chris John... Delete your account and go watch UFC.
John in his younger days was dirty.. and yes his style was all wrong for Marquez.. SOmehow right now I feel like Marquez can take dude.. the fight against Rocky Juarez, he should have been 2-0 vs him.. instead of 1-0-1.. At his point IF my homey Nonito Donaire was smart he would go to Indonesia to take John's WBA Super champ strap..
He's actually better at Wushu and has committed more of his time to it than boxing. It's a cultural thing as Wushu is far bigger in the region than boxing is.
Makes sense. I wasn't sure what it was was But I knew something was keeping him from the sport. I think my brother told me about that a while back...
