it has to do with money, outside of the boxing community he is a virtual unknown to casual fans here in the states. I am not bothered by him fighting in his home country I think its great, I am annoyed with the caliber of opposition and refusing title unification's against other greats in the division.
At the losers defending John. Marquez is a legend now millionaire while John will fade into obscurity. 4 rounds at the most is being modest to John. Nobody cares if he travels he's always fighting no-hopers.
I had Marquez beating John by a whisker. Very close fight. That aside though John has been a top 5 fw for a very long time. I think once Marquez and Guerrero left the division he was he best around, whilst he was fighting Juarez. Those two wars got him great exposure especially because near everyone thinks he won both times. I can believe he went inactive after that, it left a vaccuum filled by gamboa and then salido and now Garcia. John is probably too old to compete with the likes of Garcia and Mares now but on his day he was a very good talent. To be fair to him, he's had his moment at the top, he's made his money and he's not taken too much punishment in the process. That's the dream right?
The point deductions Marquez got were utter bull****. Fighters are allowed to punch on the belt but not below the belt; Márquez hit John right on the belt NOT below it. And anyone watched the ridiculous size of John's belt? John's belt was about 10 inches wide! **** was rigged to favour that fraud. Marquez got robbed
X 2 I'm not even that big of a fan, which you think I would be since I do talk about him probably more than anyone on this site. But I feel the boxing fan base is just so out of touch with reality on Johns' career pretty much all the way around.
John had phenomenal skill unfortunately his style did not translate into action packed fights. Most boxing fans appreciate him, most casual fans probably won't. My only gripe is that at a time I wanted to see him unify some titles that were in the division. But I feel that ship has sailed in the sense that most of the boxers moved up in weight and taken detrimental losses. I would have liked to see him in there with JuanMa
