Until recently I had never seen him fight but I was impressed with what I saw, and looking at his record he is undefeated after 41 bouts and has successfully defended his title 8 times.

He should definately appear on top 10 p4p lists.

I just saw that fight. John is good, but no, he didn't beat Marquez. If that fight takes place outside of his home country he loses 8-4.

Lot of close rounds in that fight...and with the point deductions, I think he nicks the decision by a point or two.

We can only see how good he really is if he fights in USA.

Until then, he can keep his belt and die in obscurity in his country with with his manager.

i agree with that. in fact john deserves to be underrated. i saw the fight he have with jmm and he really did not win there. he won with the help of the judges. it happened in his country too.
yes, he fights too away from his country: in japan but he fought a japanese bum in his last fight. i saw that and i was disgusted. that was one of the reason i made an opn letter to cj for fun..
in fact if you see c.j.'s record, before vorapin who has a record now of 71w and 9l, he fought bums:
his first 13 fights are fighters who are just starting out with records of 0w and 0l or 1w and 1l etc...then his 14th fight was with chuwatana (an ok fighter but looks like a b-class still)who has 14w and 6 l then he fought another bum in his 15th fight: paden 35w and 20l!!
then pad it again with bum after bum after bum 0winners ir with losses of 11,13 or 14 or those who are inexperienced who are just starting out. like one with a record of 6w-6l or 7w-3l...
then his 28th fight was against khongoane who had a record of 22-3-1 and won a ud.
after khongoane he fought vorapin and also won by ud and it was also in indonesia.
those 2 ud's bring doubt in my mind: did he won it convincingly? plus it happened in indonesia. if he won it again by running then **** he is still nothing to me..
then he fought 3 "beginners" again.
then he fought oscar leon who had a record of 24w and 3l..he won through sd.(for the 1st time) does this means that oscar leon was better than jmm cos he managed to split john which jmm did not achieve?
after leon where "decent foghters" but i bet are all class-b fighters evcept for jmm.
what was intriguing for me was john's fight with derrick gainer who has a record then of 39w and 6l on john's 36th fight.
gainer decked john on rnd 1 but john managed to pull a ud. i did not saw that fight but right now it brings doubts on me.:think
on his 38th fight it was jmm. did those experiences by john with countless bums and beginners did managed to help cj beat jmm: who has far more better resume before this fight with john and add to that resume is jmm's draw with pac?!? :? :? :?
afer jmm he fought class-b fighters again from acosta ,rojas and to takemoto.
so cj is underrated? idon't think so. he doe'snt even deserve to mention as a nominee for p4p!! his resume alone is not that impressive! his w against jmm impressive? all he did there was a marathon! don't tell me that he can do what pbf can do run and still win..:patsch :patsch

Hes going to be the next wonjongkam, good technical skills and defends his belt against non-elite fighters only in his country.

I think if he could get a solid payday outside his country he would take it but I don't think he can. If it don't make dollars, it don't make sense.

I agree this is the big issue. It's not like he'd make more by fighting in the US anyway, because he's a boring fighter. He's had about 3 fights scheduled in the US at one point or another (against Chi, Larios and someone else - can't remember who) but they all fell through because his opponents lost or retired in the interim. GPB is his co-promoter, so if he really pushes, he could get a fight or two here, but I doubt his main promoter would consent to that unless they can get a bigger purse than what he makes in Indonesia, or unless it's against a top level fighter.

As far as the JMM fight goes, it seems to be about 60/40 who think that JMM won out of people who actually watched the fight. However, 2/3 of the people on here talk out of their asses and say they know what happened even though they never saw the damn fight. Not nearly as many people can have seen the fight as say they do, because it was only televised in Indonesia, Mexico and some places in Asia, and not that many people here get DVDs of fights sent to them (it's not like the fight is on Youtube or anything). Personally, I think it was a toss-up, and as explained before, if US judges had scored the fight, it would have been for JMM, if German judges had scored the fight, it would have been for John. Marquez was more aggressive, John was more accurate, but Marquez wasn't even all that aggressive most of the fight. It looked a lot like the Mayweather/DLH fight, only John was even more passive than Mayweather, but JMM was aggressive but mostly hit shoulders and gloves the whole fight.

Either way, it was a close fight, and not a robbery.

Also, John's comp has been much better than Pong's was. He's fought and beated JMM, Gainer, Rojas, and Leon. Yes, he fights at home, but he tends to fight the best guys available to fight in Asia, unlike Pong who mostly fought third tier guys and guys he'd already beaten.

Chris John has a lot of top guys to face, Linares, Injin Chi, Rafa Marquez or Vasquez, Larios, etc. As to why it is so hard for him to land a fight with any of these guy is everybody's guess.
