this is a really fascinating match-up...jhonny gonzalez is one of the better and more tricky boxers in the sport, that is, until he gets hit. gonzalez has that sharp accurate jab, great movement, gives weird angles and a terrific array of punches...but then he gets hit and it is as if he forgets how to box completely and goes from smooth, cool operator to frantic, sloppy choke-artist with one or two good shots. see the israel vazquez fight for the prime illustration of this. his fight with gerry penalosa...same thing. even early in his career, the pair of fights with ricardo vargas laid out the blueprint for future disaster the interesting thing here is that john is no bonecrusher. i think it would all come down to whether or not john can hurt gonzalez and throw him off his game. in a pure technical duel, i think this is a very close fight...i'd pick john by a nose. but if john hurts gonzalez, we're talking a wide, wide decision, i think. gonzalez is a terrific puncher, much more dangerous than john, but john has a good beard and recovers well and knows how to fight effectively out of trouble and preserve himself. like i say, tough to call.
Johnny would be biting off more then he can chew in this one IMO.. Chris isnt a big puncher..which bodes well for Gonzalez..but he would be the physically stronger fighter and his neat, busy style I reckon takes its toll on Gonzalez. Johnny has some excellent stand up skills but not the sort that I see him being able to overcome the equally as good but bigger man.
