i really hard time scoring this one...i've always have a policy that close rounds go to the favored boxer...but in this case, john has the hometown advantage. can't really blame the judges for scoring it to john...

when i score the fight, i try to be in the shoes of the judges.

i know ring generalship is considered, but i put more weight on punches landed...kind of amateur judging...1 point for power punches and .33 or .5 depending on how clear the punches are...

if the difference is 2 points or less...i give the round to the favored boxer or a hometown guy...It's just fair as an underdog of fighter on the road, you must win convingcingly to get the round..that's the general notion...but in terms of ring generalship, JMM takes 10 or 11 rounds..

I see where you are coming from and Marquez' team made a bad mistake on coming over to Indonesia. JMM must have thought he could get the kayo because he had to have known he was gonna get the short end of the stick on a decision. Even if those 2 point deductions were not enforced he would have lost that fight by 2 to 5 points on all 3 scorecards. :-(

What ever happened to "you gotta take the title from the champion?" I tend to score dead even rounds for the man who had the belt around his waist coming into the ring that night. That fighter has earned it.

Round 7 - I couldn't really split them so 10-10, although John could've shaded it.
Round 10 - Marquez deducted for low blow. It was around the bottom of the belt area so just about legit. After the deduction he hit another low so a deserved point off all-in-all, but I thought he clearly won it so 9-9.
Round 11 - Marquez deducted again, he was winning the round but John came back quite strong so I think it would've been a 10-10, but the point off made it 10-9 John.

I thought Marquez deserved the win and dominated some and clearly won most of the rounds and it seems like the only reason John got the nod was because of the hometown bias in the point-deduction rounds which were probably given as 10-8s to John and round 7 was probably given to John also, so I could see a way in which this result could come about, in a country that is less regulated and unused to big fights and with the national boxing hero who made it a competitve fight.

It was a close fight and John never looked out of his depth but I think Marquez worked his way to deserve a good win throughout the rounds, but in the debatable rounds where he kept working his advantage, there was a way to take the round off him and the fight as the home judges would be looking for any small opportunity to give it to John so I can see how the result came about. Not a massive robbery but Marquez should have the W or at least a D.

i know the judges are highly discouraged to give even rounds...

The first 2 warnings about low blows were jokes too. John has his trunks like Urkel that night.

it doesn't damage JMM status...he is still a great fighter with or without the john fight...its forgetable as far as those who evaluate JMM's career

No, but his title got taken away and this hurt is ability to get some leverage on making big Featherweight fights. Therefore he had to move up and fight Barrera at 130. Things went pretty well from there though. Still it is a blemish on a great record. Marquez should only have 2 or 3 losses on his resmue and 1 of those is a DQ loss in his first pro fight.

thanks for the link. this is my first time to watch it full and was amazed on how really well chris john boxed especially the last 3 rounds. yes he did get on his bike but it was really effective. marquez wants to end it with a KO but he just becomes frustrated. he was even slapped 2 deductions for low blows. imo, it was no robbery and have jmm 7-5 or 6-5-1 or even 6-6 and the 2 deductions cost him the fight. but the scorecards in the fight were a little whacked though and should be closer.

nope.. he got no title in the fight.. he was the challenger and john was the champ..

he was the WBA super champ, but the WBA withdrew because he was stripped of the IBF title. WBA named him just no.1 contender

when a boxer is in the road, he must really beat the guy convincingly to get the nod of the judges..that's why you seldom see a favored fighter go on the road..it should not surprise jmm, it is expected to happen when it goes o the scorecard

agree completely,,,marquez takes 11 rounds if we based it on ring generalship...

Interesting I knew he was stripped of his IBF title but I didn't know he was not WBA Champ coming into this fight. Then again it is hard to keep up with the sanctioning bodies and even harder to figure out their reasoning behind decisions.

This does boggle the mind. As early as the 2nd round he was pasting John when attacking first and being the aggressor. He should have KO'd John. He hurt him in the 12th as well and when John was staggering back the ref stopped the action after he seemed to "trip.":-(
