Golovkin had nothing to do with it. At least as far as we know.

There's another Indonesian featherweight that could make a really huge noise when he eventually steps up :yep
Although it could take a long time and he still hasn't beat anyone of note for now

Fighter of the Year is probably a stretch, as nice a feat as upsetting the best two Indonesians was - but can we have a serious conversation about nominating V12 for Comeback of the Year in 2013? :think

He picked up a cringe-worthy split decision loss on the domestic circuit last year to 14-9-2 countryman Klaas Mboyane, supposed to have been a tune-up, overlooking him and not training properly according to his infuriated trainer. He got an earful, rededicated himself - and, well, look at how far he came.

The only candidate with as strong a case IMO is Giovani Segura - losing to Edgar Sosa in April but rebounding with knockouts of unbeaten prospect Bomba Gonzalez and top contender Tyson Marquez...

On the non-televised undercard, novice Jeff Horn defeated slick and worldly veteran Naoufel Ben Rabah via UD.

Per some ringside tweets it was close but clearly earned.

How can John be fighter of the 2000-2010 Decade when FMJ and Pac ruled the roost? He deserves possible honorable mention but he is well below below those two in terms of resume/strength of opposition.

If John had of fought in the states all those years he would have had a few losses at least sprinkled across his record. He's the Indo Ottke

Oh yeah - so you know how a bunch of Thai boxers have the last name "Kratingdaenggym"? No, they aren't one big happy family. As most of you who follow Asian boxing already know, Thai boxers often pick up extra money by legally changing their names to whatever particular gym they are based at, or the gym's corporate sponsor. Kratingdaenggym, Yongyuthgym, Kokietgym, etc. I guess otherwise there is little point to boxing professionally rather than doing Muay Thai, which is more popular there and probably the more lucrative career path with more chance for glory as well.

Well, now I've finally discovered where the "Krating Daeng" one came from at least.

Krating Daeng seems to be an energy drink, and they sponsored this broadcast event (with large monitors advertising it behind the studio pundits) on RCTI.

In fact, it seems to be very similar to Red Bull.

In fact, it may actually be the same product, Red Bull, marketed over there in southeast Asia with a different name. The logo and color scheme are the same.

Hell, it might even mean "Red Bull" in Thai. (can't be arsed to Google, too many browser tabs open as it is)

So I guess the corporation also owns a leading gym somewhere in Thailand, being that so many top boxers in the country share the name.

If he had fought in America or Europe, instead of mostly fisherman and villagers in his backyard, this would've happened quite often for him. Never seen anything special with him, a good solid, somewhat defensive boxer, that's it. Well done Chris John, you did well mate, you kept the belt in your backyard well done. I know this was in Australia, but for the most part it was in his own backyard. These people should be made to defend belts in Europe and America, you let them defend year in and out in the arse end of nowhere and no ****er wants to go there because its either a **** hole or flight time is bollox or both? To fight half the time in the middle of a food market? Bollox! So these title holders build up impressive records fighting fish. Yeah well done Vetyeka the IBO will be happy with him especially on the day of Mandela passing, but please fight a few times out of South Africa, I think boxers will less likely want to go there than to Indonesia!
