This is a very interesting fight and I do believe it would be entertaining. Who takes it? This content is protected 15(13)-0-0 Interm WBA Champ This content is protected 42(22)-0-2 WBA Champ
I think John but I feel Gamboa would win a decision in the U.S, where he is rightly being primed for good things. By no means a robbery, but in a closely contested fight that goes for the more marketable fighter.
If Gamboa, who fought only 15 fights, is already ready to fight John, who's suppose to be the best at 126, it says alot about that class weight...
Or maybe it would say a lot about Gamboa. It definitely isn't the deepest weight class but John is a very good fighter - if Gamboa could beat him it would go a long way towards justifying the hype he's received. I'm not sure who wins this one.
I'd wait a fight or three before challenging John if I were Team Gamboa. Finally there's progression in his game to adjust to the pro style. Gamboa was caught less than usual, looked very good pacing himself and landing counter shots, looked like he just wanted to box and put rounds in the bag. He dominated Rojas, and unlike John, never lost a round. Of course he's too short to simply outbox opponents, cannot use the jab very effectively so he'll never be an outside, defensive counter-puncher, but if he can mix it up, counter then being aggressive, he can be very good and hard to figure out. In a fight or two and I'd definitely give him 50-50 chance. Now, I'd probably favor John.
and he was ion Juarez' back yard. Rematch it supposedly gonna be in Vegas. Could be a very different fight. I expect John to dominate. John fought a much fresher Rojas and though he didn't knock him out he did manage to put Rojas on his ass more than once.
John by KO, 2 different levels of fighters, not to mention John has shown a pretty good beard, while Gamboa's hasn't to say the least....
If John can box like he did in the first nine rounds against Juarez then he could get the decision. But I would think Gamboa would catch up with him at some stage and knock him out.
