I was just doing a little Boxrec'ing, and saw a name from the past that has me scratching my head. Chris John, as you probably know, is the only guy to ever defeat JMM beside Pac (once!) and Floyd. He's still an active FW, still undefeated, (beating guys with very impressive records) and yet you never hear anything about this guy. (Well, I don't, at least.) He doesn't even have a 2013 fight scheduled. Am I just overlooking the guy, or is there a reason that the networks ignore him?
He doesn't like to travel and isn't the most exciting fighter on earth. I think the only time he fought in the US was on a GBP undercard against Rocky Juarez.
he actually fought juarez twice on HBO.. got robbed the first time.. he's actually a pretty exciting fight.. Last fight against ( someone with an impossible name) was pretty good.. I think he is just happy to stay in southeast asia.... Maybe when Donaire moves up to featherweight. Arum will try to make a fight between them in Macau. Could be a pretty big fight..
This pinhead almost got ko'd by Rocky Juarez and only won 3 rounds against Marquez. One of the biggest, overhyped fighters of the last 25 yrs. Hope "The Salamander" stays in Indonesia he doesn't deserve a big fight.
Chris John one of the most underapprecited boxers ever but ive always been a huge fan of his. Dude can box his ass off for all I know.. Alot of people tend to knock on his resume but the truth is, regardless of how many bums he's fought, it's never easy to stay undefeated for as long as he has in this pro boxing.. This dude won his title back in 2003 and has defended kept that title ever since which is no easy task.. Bernard Hopkins' middleweight reign isn't all that different from Chris Johns at 126.. BOth didnt fight killers but their consistency is admirable regardless.. I wouldnt say that the networks are ignoring him.. It's just that John is a superstar in his country and makes good money over there combined with the fact that his style isn't overly exciting for most people, American networks arent dieing to get him on their network.. Chris John is a bad ass fighter though..
Pinhead? A bit harsh, no? I'm just watching the JMM fight now, for the first time. John easily won rounds 2, 3, & 4, with Marquez missing 90% of his shots. Round 1 was even. Marquez found his rhythm in round 5 and won that one decisively. I don't have time to watch the rest right now. It seems most fans think it was a robbery, so I assume JMM won the rest of the rounds, but the first 5 rounds made for a great, competitive fight. There's nothing boring about Chris John's style. He's incredibly skilled, and very fast. He has a brilliant outside game. Marquez had a really hard time finding his distance & rhythm against him, and that's really saying something. He's easily as skilled as Andre Ward. Maybe the networks just don't like low KO percentages, or they don't care about remote broadcasts, or whatever. Too bad, this guy is (to me) very entertaining to watch.
Chris John is a beast. HOF bound. I refuse to recognize the Salido vs. Garcia winner as the lineal champ because I still rank John #1 at featherweight. Such a long dominance, proven by him being the longest reigning titlist active (and I think he has been ever since Hozumi lost). I score John vs. Marquez to John or a draw every time (watched it thrice). Not even close to a robbery. As for Chris John lately, I watched his most recent fight with Piriyapinyo (44-0) and was very impressed. Piriy came to fight and John showed he still has it. It was a very good action fight. Rounds 6-8 (I think it was these rounds) were a war. Here is a link to that fight: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xu...-piriyapinyo_sport?search_algo=2#.USWBxaXWj9Y I will say though that John is ultimately a disappointment from my selfish POV in that I feel he could have beaten many of the American-exposed featherweights through the years. I watched a recent interview with John and his manager/trainer. They say he will fight out his career in Singapore with no real interest in a unification, and that he plans to retire after his 50th win. He is 48-0-2 now. Here's to hoping one of his final two fights are of relevance!
I'm assuming you know the main reason why he looked so bad in his first fight with Juarez but your biased ass just decided not to mention it.....that or YDKSAB.....one of the two...just sayin':-(
He is a good boxer. Theophane is another great underrated boxer. I wish some promoter with an eye for talent would hook guys like these up with trainers
Sweet, I've tried to look for this fight a couple of times but but couldn't find it. Thanks for the link!
Happy to do so! It's a great site by the way. Bunch of Asian fights. I recommend Ioka vs. Rodriguez, as well (skip to round 6 if you don't wanna sit through it). Ioka vs. Yaegashi is on the site, which I spent months searching for elsewhere with no luck. Also, a fight like Nkosinathi Joyi vs. Katsunari Takayama is there, which I also couldn't find elsewhere (though I didn't search that feverishly). I only got through 2 rounds of watching that fight, but those rounds were a good watch. Will finish later. Enjoy...
I scored this fight 10-2 to JMM when it was first released on the internet weeks after the fight actually happened. When you said you scored rounds 2,3,and 4 easily for John, I decided to pay those rounds a visit again. I just watched round 2! You're a ****ing idiot if you scored round 2 for John. I invite anyone here to go to youtube just for the sake of watching round 2. Marquez not only won the round, he dominate it. He scored with the jab, landed power shots to both head and body, while John did little of anything in the round. Clearly round 2 goes to Marquez. You're either trolling or dont know **** about scoring a round. Jesus Christ, even a novice can score round 2 it was that easy to see Marquez won it hands down!
