He's not that good, and the JMM fight was a robbery, regardless of what seems to be the trend in this thread claiming otherwise. John made Marquez look bad by controlling the pace of the bout, but from what I recall he simply didn't do enough on the offensive end, while JMM was landing the bigger shots and being the more active of the two. He exposed certain weaknesses in Marquez's game (Marquez being a counter-puncher himself had difficulties effectively pressing the fight), but he did not do enough to win. Stylistically he was just tough for Marquez, who I'd still pick to KO him in a rematch, but outside of that I don't see him as an elite Featherweight at all.

truth is this guy is probably making alot of money on his side of the world and probably making more than any US network is willing to put up.

At the same time he is a nightmare risk/reward fight for anyone because he cannot bring in the big dollars and is such a good fighter that its not worth it to fight him. JMM actually stated in an interview that he believes he beat Chris JOhn and therefore doesn't need to rematch him. This is very different from what he says about Pacquiao, which is basically : I beat him and therefore i should get a rematch. It goes to show you, its all about money.

Something interesting, i was reading about john on wikipedia and it says that in an ESPN interview he claimed that when he retires he will be remembered as the greatest featherweight of all time. I searched ESPN.com but couldn't find the interview.

Marquez was robbed in that fight.

Chris John is truly nothing special and would get beaten outside of his comfort zone. He was supposed to have a fight here in the states sometime soon, if it happens and its against a name opponent he will lose badly.

Its only pharaoh and some other deuchebag that ever claim CJ the winner. Lack of knowledge in scoring a fight obviously.

I dont agree with you Pea, that John exposed weaknesses in Marquez.

I consider John a B level fighter, nowhere close to being an elite......but he is a tall range type that can move......

.....being in his own backyard that day, John's sole mission was to fight to survive.....he basically did it by running the whole fight.

JMM chased, getting off and landing one's and two's (because you dont get off combinations on a surviving fighter who's runnning)......

What we basically had was a fighter in JMM that showed up to box, and another in John who's sole purpose that night was to survive.

Its that simple, its not about John exposing JMM's weakness.
John trained in the gym to fight a survival fight, and whether you're a boxer or a brawler, you're never going to look spectacular against a fighter thats not there to win.

Btw forum, John is a non-factor as far as joining the elites at 135 lbs and above.....JMM certainly does not need to fight a man he's already clearly beaten in the ring.

I've heard somewhere that he'd have been happy for a rematch but JMM was not interested. Seems JMM was afraid of the same outcome as the first.

yeah, but the offer was made after JMM beat Barrera and asked JMM to go back down to 126, why would he do that if he was a title holder at 130

He's a slick fighter beat JMM in his own game. However I do believe he is protected and like his fighting style does not take enough risks with his career. Although he did call out Pac....but thats true with a slew of fighters from 122-135.

Thats the point of debate between fans here on ESB and Yahoo why JMM was so bold to go to the Phil. and challenge Pacman right after their bout whereas, he hasn't done that with John.

Nah...sorry, but only basing my view from the articles on print as well as all the issues here on the internet. Seems many have seen the actual bout and are in contention that its a close fight regardless of who the winner is. What irks me is that JMM's fans always shouts for that unfinished business with Manny but never with John...

Of course its about money, who the hell has said it was'nt?

    1. Pacquiao gave a better account of himself vs Marquez, at least he fought to win.
This matchup will always be a great matchup, and even if Marquez as is my opinion, clearly beats him everytime.....there's no denying that its always a physically taxing fight on Marquez, and one in which you're on the edge of your seat all the way through.

2.A Chris John fight is'nt necessary for obvious reasons.
John clearly lost a fight he was there to only survive.
Who the hell would want to see that again?

.....and also, John has'nt done a damn think since to put himself in position to fight any of the big names.
Until John does so, he's out of the picture.
