Agreed its not a big name fight - more of a - who tf????? - fight but the opponent has some chops. Looking forward to it!
What kind of chance would you give Vetyeka against John? I remember 5-6 years ago he fought Hasegawa and if memory serves correctly Hasegawa clearly won, but Vetyeka performed fairly well as a 16-0 unknown contender. Maybe he gets up for the bigger fights?
Yeah, his only loss aside from that one to peak Hozumi was by SD in an eight-round tune-up with a fellow South African journeyman with a year's worth of rust and his own coach threw him under the bus for not training properly, listening to his advice, or taking his opponent seriously. (http://www.necn.com/06/05/12/BOXING...e.html?&apID=818fafff1132421ebddf716971dc905a) Besides that his resume is respectable if not very deep beyond domestic level, with nine defenses of the South African bantamweight title and claiming a couple of fringe world belts against fringe world contenders Barcelona and Caro. The motivated Vetyeka who fought Yordan actually stands a great chance against the increasingly flat-footed and immobile John, if the performance from John over three rounds against Hosono in the main event that night is any indication of what the Dragon has left.
or Mares, or Johnny Gonzales, or Orlando Salido even DeLeon....anyone but the same crap hes been fighting..... the #12 featherweight in the world at this point...MEH
Bob Arum will not allow this, Chris John is a class above Donaire Chris John last fight to make 50-0 must be vs Lomachenko or Rigondeaux
just what I expected from Chris John the eternal phony paper champ and ducker the indonesian sven ottke who'll never leave his shithole to fight legit opposition the ¨ATG¨ who's biggest achievement is a gift decission over JMM ages ago he'll go down in history as a fraud with an abysmal resume and a meaningless ¨0¨
Unfortunately Chris John pissed his career away fighting exclusively in Pac Rim venues. In essence he is more of a local/regional champ than a legit world champ. He was pretty good though, just sad waste of talent.
Man, I tell you... I am a Chris John fan, but nothing ridiculous. He wouldn't come up for a little bit if I rallied off my favorite active fighters consecutively. But I respect the hell out of his accomplishments and routinely get frustrated by the more-than-warranted amount of seemingly bitter hatred and disrespect by such a large percentage of posters. Most also show their lack of ever watching him fight when you begin to discuss his career with them too. He's a 48-0-3 Indonesian legend who is and has been for a while, the longest reigning titlist in all of boxing. He holds a win over the fighter generally thought of as the 4th or so best fighter of his whole era in Marquez. And he beat JMM. I thought so too. Only time I've seen Vetyeka. At a glance of the resume, I don't see how this is a soft touch wholly worthy of some sort of outcry. While he's climbed two divisions in the last year or so, he's a longtime South African regional titlist who won a vacant IBO (meaningless, but still the IBO) title at bantam. Because of that he got a shot at the IBO feather title and tossed a hand grenade at the apple cart to beat John's country-mate and rival, a solid fighter himself, in Yordan... How is John/Vetyeka not a logical fight to be made? To compare to how much respect Gradovich will earn from fans after he rematches and beats Dib, Chris John will get much much less for beating a guy who in all honesty very well may be better "head to head."
I think John actually looked great against Piriyapino despite being dragged into a war and losing some rounds. Piriyapino is a good fighter himself and John's adjustments and stamina to sweep the final rounds was mighty impressive. However, John looked really really bad and dare I say likely even on the way to a defeat from how I viewed it against Hosono. Hosono threw bombs and John for the first time in his career didn't look to be taking the punches well.
