Chris Lytle and Matt Serra will rematch at UFC 119

Very nice. Their first fight was too close to call but as we all know Serra ended up getting the decision en route to upsetting GSP. I'm very interested in seeing how this match up plays out today.

 

First fight sucked but I think things have changed since then. Lytle has being going balls to the walls since then and all Serra thinks about is right hands. So I like this fight and its not an easy one to pick they are somewhat evenly matched kinda like the 1st time.

 

Yeah, as a rematch I'm not really excited about this. The first one was PAINFULLY boring as I recall. As someone said though, they have someone different styles now, especially Lytle. Still, as with the Nog/Mir II fight it's not clear to me what the point is. Whoever wins won't be vaulted into title contention and if the same person wins again (Serra, Mir) then they really haven't gone anywhere new while if the win switches (Lytle, Nog) then they're still 1-1 and it de-legitimizes an important win from the guy that won the first time.

I could see it if this was Strikeforce where they only have a few top guys at each weight, but hell, there are TONS of guys to fight in the UFC, especially at 170. Put either guy against Fitch or Rumble Johnson and that'd be a great fight.

 

And Lytle will beat him, like he did the first time.

Maybe I am remembering it wrong, but I don't remeber it as a war.

I remember it as Serra trying unsuccessfully to get a takedown against the fence and Lytle punching him with arm shots.

I could very well be wrong, haven't seen it since the original and then a replay later that week.

plus serra is getting up there in ring years.

 

Ring years ? Bro hes fought exactly once a year not counting TUF since 2005 this dude is so damn rested. If anyone is old in fight years its Lytle he fights multiple times a year in FOTY caliber fights. I think its evenly matched Lytle likes to swing wild haymakers and Serra looks for the big right hand both can take a punch so it could come down to grappling and both are nearly even with their wrestling skills and although id give Serra an advantage in Jiujitsu Lytle isnt exactly a bum on the ground either.

 

The first fight was rubbish, but I'm looking forward to this one. I like Serra, hope he wins.

 

A couple of months ago I would have picked Serra just because I like the guy but man Lyttle has made a fan out of me. He is my favorite fighter currently, he just gets better and better.

 

This is a good rematch. They're both better fighters now.
