Unluckily for him Chris was overshadowed by his fellow country men as his career coincided with some of the most celebrated British boxers of the last 50 years.

Had he been around at any other time I think he would have been far better remembered.

For those of you that remember him fighting what thoughts do you have about this very decent but rarely mentioned British boxer?

IIRC he was a lot better Lt Middle than he was Middle. He had big strength advantage at 154 that he didn't seem to carry up to 160, whether that was just because the fought the lighter guys on the way up and the heavier boxers at Euro/ world level I don't know. Was a very, very good fighter though.

i remember seeing him fight steve the viking foster in manchester right at the end of his career...the viking had a huge advantage over anyone that fought him in manchester...half of slaford would be in the crowd..with viking helmets on !!..he had one of the most amazing group of supporters i ever seen at that level..

I agree Pyatt was around at great time for british boxing. If he was around now would be a much bigger name. Pyatt could box when he needed to but was also happy to stand and trade and had good power. He also won the commonwealth games gold which is a great honor. I had the pleasure of training with pyatt for a year or so when I was young boy and learnt a great deal from watching chris. A prison spell half way through his career dident help him but hey a world champ is no small thing. Chris now has his own amature gym based in Leicester and is bulding a great team which is getting good results.

I wish him all the luck in the world with his gym.

I think you are right that if he was around now he's be a big name. Frankly if he were around at anytime other than when Eubank/Benn/Watson/Collins/Graham etc were all at their best he's have been far better known.

Remind me how many Enzo Mac threads you've started in your time here mate?

I remember him - good looking fighter to watch. I also remember them taking his photo down off the wall at Belgrave ABC (Pyatts old club) in Leicester after the club had been burgled and apparently Pyatt had something to do with it - or at least the crowd he ran with.

That 100% right the picture went from the Belgrave after the club got robed.Pyatts bigest trouble IMO was getting distracted by what was going on around him. He was real class and was more than capable of doing better than he did.

Hey slip and duck are you from Leicester ?

Yes mate, Beaumont Leys. Don't live there anymore.
At the time my best mates dad was matchmaker at Belgrave - Stan Gough and if I remember right the two old guys who trained were Jim Knight and Joe Western. I imagine they would've been the guys responsible for training Chriss Pyatt, Tony Mckenzie and probably Tony Sibson too.
