Yep your right the belgrave has had its fair share of good fighters Sibson Pyatt Mckenzie Linford Adey Allen My dad trained Sibson up to his first british title I think Sibson would have had a bigger name if he was fighting today with his style.
I'm not sure, boxing was a lot more mainstream in Sibbos day. His Euro title fights used to get more press than some of the world title fights today.
Well Sibson's only problem becomming a big star was a certain Marvin Hagler. SIbbo was excellent... but Hagler was a class apart back then.
You got that right no way Sibson would have beat Hagler ever. The one thing you could count on with Sibson is a good tear up. He also had an army of fans as well.
You got a point in them days a Euro title was prime time BBC viewing. But with all the belts now a days it would be fair to say he would have owned a world title. I would say Pyatt was the better fighter of two he had the boxing ability and smarts as well as loving a tear up. Sibson had great power though
He'd def. get a belt these days, TBH I think he could possibly have been champ except for Hagler, there wasn't a lot of quality in the division Hagler aside. When Sibbo was in his prime (1981-83) the top guys were Hamsho, Fletcher, Scypion etc nothing there that Sibson couldn't have beat if he was on form. The Lee loss pretty much ended him as real middleweight contender at world level.
Yes were agreed on the world belt the lee loss was pretty bad career wise because it was over seas. But had a great fight with Kaylor for bit and eu titles. My brother plays football with Kaylors son in the states for cal state. Kaylor married an amercian chick and moved overthere and opened a gym. Sibsons worst loss was against lottie Mwale koed in one but to be fair he was supposed to be a big hitting light heavy a right hand full aparently.
I remember Pyatt being a good standard of fighter with a wicked left hook to the body. Sadly, as others have already said he was overshadowed by the 160 pounders that were around in Britain at the time. Didn't he have some out of the ring problems that caused him to go inside for a little while during his prime years, or am I confusing him with someone else?
