GSP is fighting the winner of Woodley/Maia.

Tbf Weidman was the underdog, most others and I fully expected him to crumble at some point and get stopped but that didn't happen. He's also the first to ever stop Gastelum so he deserves credit for that. Will he win the title again? I highly doubt it but this was a solid comeback win.

Exactly. Gastelum has never really been outclassed. The Magny and Woodley fights were both debatable, and hardly anyone would have complained had he been given the nod instead. Weidman with his back to wall, flash knockdown aside completely scholed Gastelum in all areas while a betting underdog. Akbar one is full of it.

How is Weidman not a top 5 fighter within the realm of the UFC at this point?

    (h2h)

    1) Whittaker
    2) Romero
    3) Rockhold
    4) Weidman
    5) Souza

Weidman is a fight or two away from securing another title shot, maybe not even that depending on the circumstances. He is BACK in the mix whether you want to admit it or not.

If Souza can't come back this fall from his surgery why not make Weidman vs Silva 3? Weidman and Silva are currently rated 5 and 6, both clearly past prime, it might make for an interesting fight.

There would also be a good chance to see Silva's bald head bounced up and down on the canvas like a basketball again.

Submitting a welter at middleweight, after losing three in a row to top quality middleweight opposition is ok I guess. I don't put stock in he was the first to do this or that to Gastellum because we all saw they were two different sized fighters in the cage.

Gastelum was coming off back to back KO wins over top 10 MWs and he stopped the Uriah Hall hypetrain. He proved that he was a legit player in the division.

That and he had never been decisively bested in the cage. Beat the hell out of a faded but still game Marquardt, Kennedy and Belfort. Those are solid wins, maybe not elite.. But still really good. Gastelum was hovering just outside of the top 5, hell arguably top 5 with Mousasis departure and Weidmans perceived decline.

Missed yesterday's fights. Thought they were today.

I don't understand this whole Weidman in decline theory. Not completely. I understand that he beat Anderson Silva and this gave many high hopes. Especially with his undefeated record. I think people were ready to give him a status he hadn't quite earned, but he had just defeated a once thought to be invincible champion. It's understandable. It also put him in a position to have to face elite opposition every time out afterward. Let's look at some of those wins.

Anderson Silva- Rematch looked to be headed the same way as the first fight when an unfortunate injury ended the fight. Silva went 1-2-1nc afterward.

Lyoto Machida- Won a dominant UD. Machida is 1-2 afterward, and was finished in both losses.

Vitor Belfort- Rocked early by Belfort but stopped still stopped Vitor in the opening round. Vitor is 2-2-1nc, with the NC being an over turned decision loss dut to his opponent failing the post fight drug test for marijuana.

His next 3 fights were losses, but they were all to good fighters and they were all competitive. He was holding his own in all 3 fights, and lost the last trying to take advantage of stupid rule. Putting your hand on the ground is not a legitimate way to defend against a knee. He tried to play that game and I'm glad the fight ended the way it did.

I don't know that Weidman was effected by new testing policies. I'm beginning to wonder if he was ever that great to begin with.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that when a fighter that is good enough to beat Lyoto by decision, gets knocked out by 2 guys that were good enough to knock Lyoto out, that maybe it isn't automatically a sign that someone was once a cheater.

OH NO dude; he is short and fat and EVERYONE knew he would lose despite him being an oddsmakers favorite. LOL

Does that Akhbar Dumb come on every RBR and start spewing his bias'?

The other week he was all gloating after two rounds of Romero then the entire fight clearly changes in the third and he starts hedging and contradicting everything he said up to that point.

The guys a loon who had Chilemba up 6-0 over Kovalev!

What is the story behind Mousasi jumping to Bellator? He is scheduled to fight Shlemenko in October.

Just being a diva I think. I guess the UFC weren't paying him enough, and not giving the matchups he desired. But with Romero losing, Weidman upsetting Gastelum is was a pretty silly move. He probably at the very least could have gotten a crack at the winner of Bisping/Whittaker. Comes up short? Yeah the sign with Bellator... Become a big fish in a small pond. But win? The UFC would certainly give him the kind of money he desired. Very shortsighted move by Mousasi.
