There is another pair of 10-rounders on the bill of which I believe one serves as the de jure main events (Mathieu Bauderlique vs. Yann Binanga Aboghe for the vacant WBC Francophone light heavyweight title) but I'm not too concerned with such parochial matters (whereas the careers of M'Billi and Hamadouche both have potential ramifications beyond domesticity) and so my RBR might conclude before it.

The other 10-rounder is about to start to officially kick things off after half an hour of commentators gabbing.

This is for the national middleweight title of France.

 

Natchoo, a 26 year old nicknamed "L'Indien (or, The Indian - meaning Native American, not from the land of Buddha, judging by the giant tattoo between his shoulder blades of a chieftain with a feathered headdress)", is 15-1-4 (5) and stands at 6' tall.

Mothmora, a 38 year old veteran, boasts a barely positive 29-26-2 record that belies the fact that he nonetheless has faced the far better opposition, and sprung a few upsets in his day, and is a former WBF middleweight champion.

 

Round 1

Mothmora is squatting and jabbing the body, then reeling away from Natchoo's wildly roped out right hands. Natchoo is following Mothmora in his outward/diagonal bends to either side, chasing with the lashing right hand, lunging and missing, left off-kilter and vulnerable to body jab counters. Mothmora is nearly trapped on the ropes and is swatted and grazed by his temple with a chopping Natchoo hook. They swap combos as Mothmora steps around Natchoo and then propels himself outside behind the cover of a few jabs up top. Natchoo still windmilling in with the right hand, close but no cigar.

Round 2

Mothmora is pumping jabs in multiples at the belly and chin of Natchoo and double- or triple-stepping left to avoid the power shots favored by Natchoo, the big telegraphed right hands. Natchoo catches Mothmora ducking & weaving inside with a patter of straight punches on his abdomen by faking him out with a right upper-hook, letting Mothmora drop his entire head below it, and then ambushing him with a left hook flush on the cheek (using his own momentum to maximize the impact) when he comes rolling out the other side. Mothmora down. He's up and jabbing away frantically to keep Natchoo at bay. Natchoo finds him, still a bit woozy and unable to evade as quickly, with a right hand. Dropped again, saved by the bell.

Round 3

Mothmora is jabbing and diving off to his left, upper body dipped low so that his face rests by his thighs, dodging Natchoo's chopping rights. Natchoo is wiggling out an uneducated jab, really not the best weapon in his arsenal, with Mothmora ducking it and prodding him thrice in the chest with his own jab in the space of time it takes Natchoo to badly miss & retract his own. Natchoo does graze him with a right hand pulling out. Mothmora is keeping a busy jab in Natchoo's face and manages to get him on the back-foot, where he seems less comfortable. Mothmora even landing some overhand rights now - but only narrowly sidestepping the big rights of Natchoo, whom Mothmora clearly still regards as dangerous. A swiping left hook by Natchoo grazes his nose as he lands a body combo and pulls back abruptly.

Round 4

Mothmora is jabbing the bejezeus outta Natchoo. Mothmora is hunching up his shoulders, tightly squeezed inward, making himself a small and incisive target and slicing his way through Natchoo's wide punches to unload drum-roll combos on his face. Natchoo is landing some counter hooks but really can't set his shots up well under pressure. A few incidental stabs at the body from Natchoo do nothing to discourage Mothmora as he opens up with hacking combinations on the face. Wild desperate rights from Natchoo as he's backed into the ropes. They spin and change positions in the course of exchanging and now a hailstorm of leather from Natchoo falls upon Mothmora, largely hitting gloves. Triple jabs by Mothmora to regain control.

This is a wild ride. Feels like either one could get KTFO at every moment.

 

Round 5

Mothmora is successfully cruising in reverse around the ring and leaving a breadcrumb trail of jabs for Natchoo to gobble up as he tags along. Natchoo is starting to wise up and get hip to using the jab now - as blinding diversion rather than a punch he seriously attempts to land. Lumpy jabs strewn in his line of sight, Mothmora is unable to see all the right hands Natchoo sends hurtling towards him. Mothmora is caught by a few, and they send him scrambling. Natchoo is able to pin him on the ropes and land a few uppercuts on the body, still threatening with a fluttering, poorly aimed jab used as smokescreen.
