the man just had the most brillant performance in his carreer. he defeated jorge arce in a fight that saw arce bruised, bloodied and beaten. for his next fight mijares is taking on teppei kikui (21-5-0 with FOUR KOs). WBC ranked 12. i think this is a travesty. mijares just showed the world how great his boxing is and now he has to take on a japenese dude who lost his last fight via a ud for the japanese belt how can a guy who just lost get a crack at the world title? i cringed a bit when i first heard that eric morales was getting a title shot but this is horrible. i think mijares should move up in weigh. othernthan a fight against montiel, there's basically no one else to fight in that division that would improve his resume. your thoughts?
well, big fights are hard to make under 118 lbs...if you want to stay active you have to take some fights like this
Hey relax and look at the bigger picture Bruh. Here's his last four fights : Kawashima 30-4-0/won Reynaldo Lopez 28-3-2/won Rematch with Kawashima/won Arce 46-3-1/won After 4 hard fights the guy deserves a little slack. To think that Kikui is 21-5-0 and rated 12, that's not exactly an easy fight. Now why would he go up in weight? He can fight Nobuo Nashiro (WBA Champ) or Fernando Montiel (WBO Champ) for a unification fight.
i respect your opinion man, but what did kikui do to seserve a title shot? he lost to another japanese for their title. doesn't the one who beat him deserve th fight mijares more than him? i said that apart from montiel, there's nobody worth fighting and i stand by that. he could go dwon a weight class where vic and wonjongkam are or go up to meet johnny gonzales or if he's really out to get worldwide recognition. go up two weight classes where rafael marquez and de leon are. i'm just saying that he deserves respect and he would not get it in fighting japanese bums. and by the way, i dont agree that he had four straight fights. he had a cake walk against arce. he had big leads against lopez and the 2nd fight against kawashima. i like mijares. i really hope he gets past kikui and moves on to bigger things.
I know what you're saying. Just look at it the other way. Mijarez just need an easy fight after the four hard fights he had gone through. Kikui may not deserve it but he is lucky he was chosen by Mijarez camp. Got what I mean? :hey Mijarez needs to unify that's the best he can do. :good
so you don't think he should move up in weight at all? or are you just saying that now is not the right time?
do you think he choose this japanese kid to fight?? I think he is dying for a big fight against the likes of darcharyan, but i don't think he is going to get a big fight soon. IF Darcharyan wants to step it up, he rather fights Arce. Cause there is more money and its an easier fight
Nashiro's not the champ anymore, he lost to Alexander Munoz. Mijares is partially just building up his resume more right now and staying busy, and this fight is for his hometown fans anyway. As was already mentioned, he's fought 4 really tough fights in a row. He can take a bit of a breather, and it's not like the guy he's fighting is some can either. I'm sure he'd love a Darchinyan matchup, but the dollars don't make sense for that one yet.
okay, i ressurected this thread for one reason only. people told me that the kikui fight will just be a stay busy fight etc and i gave them the benefit of the doubt. now look what happend. he beat kikui to a bloody pulp and now will be is facing..... drumroll please...... franck gorjux 16-7-0 7 kos. i know. you haven't heard of him yet. neither have i
i want him to go up in weight so he and castillo can have a fight. two of the best technicians around that weight class, that would be a great tactical contest.
