I tell you what - I'm low-key sorta pumped for this. Mind you, this fight doesn't really matter, in the least. That is, neither Algieri nor Coyle are going to springboard themselves into a world title opportunity from here - and if they ever do end up in one at this stage of their respective careers, it will be on the wrong side of a mismatch. Algieri's days mixing at that level are over, and Coyle is just flatly a level below where Algieri was at his age. They also both stand very little chance of stopping the other, as both are tough feather-fists.

So why am I stoked for a low-staked guaranteed 12-rounder that very well might not have any knockdowns or serious drama? I'm thinking about their styles, and I envision them meshing in an entertaining way. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. This might well steal the show @ MSG on Saturday night - and that's coming from somebody who expects Taylor vs. Persoon to be a very high-caliber fight (maybe even one that convinces some people to actually take women's boxing seriously - more likely to do so than Shields vs. Hammer was, to be certain).

WBO International 140lb title at stake, 1st defense of Algieri. Neither man is ranked by the WBC, IBF, or WBA; the WBO has Algieri #5 but doesn't have Tommy Coyle in their May edition top 15...presumably making this a "voluntary" defense.

Actually, wouldn't rule out a cuts stoppage either way. I have a feeling these guys are going to rip into each other.

So what you're saying is that Algieri might be let out of his cage in this one?

I think Tommy's going to batter Algieri from one side f the ring to the other and stop him late. Stylistically Coyle is a pretty match up for Chris.

Just boxrecing looking at Algieris recent fights I was thinking this might happen as well. Being even remotely competitive with a guy like Daniel Gonzalez is not a good sign.

Exactly, I watched and scored that fight on here, while many of the later rounds, Chris may have shaded some of them by a hair, based o accuracy, but Gonzalez was starting to put it on him and quite frankly he was looking ready to go in the last round, he was gassing badly.

Coyle is one of those guys who has gotten better the more he's been beaten up, Algieri on the other hand has had a lot of his ability beaten out of him.

Algieri should win fairly easily. Only 3 losses to pretty good company.

im happy that this and Kelly vs Robinson are on early in the card, I can watch them and go to bed by 1 am probably, no interest in staying up to watch Callum Smith and Joshua putting beatings on their opponents :deal:

    Maurice Hooker?
Hooker doesn't seem to have all that many options right now. I have a feeling that either Cano or Algieri/Coyle will get the next shot.
And I imagine if Linares can get a few wins under his belt, he might get a shot as well(it is a fight that was talked about).

I'm not really all that big on Hooker myself but either of these would be very easy work for him.
