He always looks like that. He's just slowed down and has lost his punch resistance. In boxing, punchers are usually finished by their early thirties whether it's Joe Frazier, Mike Tyson, or Rocky Marciano. Chuck is almost thirtynine. Time waits for no man. Liddell had some amazing victories in the past over no-holds barred pioneer Pele, over former UFC heavyeweight champion Kevin Randleman, against former Pride Champion Wanderlai Silva, over former UFC champion TIto Ortiz, over former UFC champion Vitor Belfort, over former heavyweight and light-heavyweight champion Randy Couture X2, and many more. Chuck was one of the greats and always did his best to put on a show.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha u stupid ****in **** !!!!!!!! , go and do some research on the sport and on the relationship of Liddell and White you peice of **** !!!!!!! White and Liddell are almost like brothers , he took 14 months out and begged White for a comeback , got in shape so White says who am i to tell a man once considered unbeatable that he's never fighting again , after getting himself into top shape !!!! , answer well im no one to say that so ill give him one last chance !!!! Secondly Franklin is a more credible fighter than Shogun LMAO , go was your mouth out boy !!!!!!!!!!!!
When are you dumb dumb ****ers gonna realise this aint ****in boxing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How many aspects of this sport do you dumb ****s choose to completley ignore !!!!!!!! :barf
I can't count the Wandy fight, he is shot and hasn't been the same since being Head Kicked by Crocop, but I do give him credit for wins over Vitor and Bustamante and Landi-jons oh and Overeem and Metzger. Come to think of it Chucks younger days where more impressive then when he was Champ.
No it was competitive but he got a beatdown in the end it was stopped as the bell rang simultaneously. Thats partly because rampage fought like an animal with no fear. His reign as champ was full of scared **** grapplers with weak takedown attempts and very weak striking to keep him honest. He also developed an aura and people were afraid, I mean even Randy in the last fight was so freaking tentative. What happened? randy slipped and POW he got clocked. Watch the Vernon White fight, he was getting hit, Vernon was just alot smaller and was at the tail end as well of his career. Ill put it this way, had he faced Anderson Silva earlier even in his prime, I can guarentee that he wouldnt be as revered as he is today.
You don't have to explain it to me, I've never thought Chuck was this great fighter but I did always like him and enjoyed watching his fights.
These things happen Chuck was a dominant Champion then all of a sudden hes getting stopped cold nearly every fight after we seen this with Roy Jones and other greats. No reason to bash a guy whos a big reason why we have a forum like this to talk to each other about MMA.
The title of your thread sucks , but unfortunatley i have to agree with you , Liddell is done , its highly questionable whether he was ever the striker people beleived him to be anyway , as he was fed wrestlers in his hayday , his best wins are all over wrestlers , Tito , Randy , Babalu he got KO'd twice by Rampage , has a solid win over Overeem but for me he's a legend . He was the most exciting fighter there ever was to watch in MMA , and a true gentleman absolute legend :good and will be missed . Going back to Chuck's technical flaws , his main 2 are his over extension into shots as Franklin eluded too , leaves his open to counter hooks and uppercuts ala Rampage , Rashad & Franklin and the fact he is too upright , that may very well come from his kick boxing background , knuckle head boxing fans wont know that in Muy Thai especially you are taught to stand up right with no bobbing and weaving due to the danger of being caught with a well timed head kick or knee !!!! , however MMA is not Muay Thai or kick boxing and you need to modify your stand up style to suit that , i.e. you do need head movement with them small gloves , anyway my point being Chuck doesnt move his head , he looked slow on his feet and his footwork looked very amatuer ' ish , these are things Chick has never been good at , but they have just got worse as he's gotten older , to the point where his immense power , un predictable style and world class sprawl cant get him out of !!!!! Long live Chuck Liddell !!!! :good
No, you only said he slowed down and punch resistance was worse. Those are correct, but he was also stiffer, worse technique, totally lacked any head movement, was reaching in more than ever and looking like complete ****. He didn't look that bad against Rua and not nearly that bad against Rashad. His body was stuttering everytime an exchange would occur. He knew what he wanted to do but his body wasn't responding properly.
Like Nuke, never been a fan of his style but he brought excitement. His career parallels Wandys abit although the latter can still kick some ass and had better wins IMHO. He was the posterboy for MMA but Jimmie you have to agree that for a purely standup fighter Chucks game was littered with holes thats was just waiting to be exploited.
atsch Vernon White got in some punches vs Liddell yes but barely fazzed Liddell and got dropped like a half dozen times and put to ****ing sleep. Vernon at no stage of his career could have ever defeated Chuck Liddell. Ok Randy was tenative and slipped in the 3rd fight but gee why was he fighting like that ? Oh yeah because Chuck drilled him cold in their 2nd fight. Title reign full of scared fights with weak takedowns ? Lets see you actually STFU and go try to fight like Horn, Randy, Tito and Babalu the last 3 which Chuck beat down 2 times each and all 4 have had outstanding MMA careers. Chuck was a very dominant Champion for a reason great takedown defense, good angles and scary KO power. Fear didnt have those fighters drooling Power did that. Whats your excuses for his KOs over Mezger, Overeem or him whooping Wanderlei (both where shot so **** off) and Vitor ? Let me guess then all had staph infections or some **** right ? So what if Anderson Silva would have whooped him who hasnt Silva whooped ?
Fighters always have trouble with retirement. Think how many guys in boxing should have retired long before they did. Yes, Chuck probably should have called it quits after the Shogun fight but let's not be all shocked and amazed that he came back to fight again. And I wouldn't dump on Dana White too much. If Liddell was hell bent to fight again he very well may have went elsewhere to do it if Dana hadn't given give him another chance.
Yes he had some standup holes but lets be honest how many MMA fighters dont have gapping holes ? Very rarely are any of these guys decorated kick boxers or boxers and have very polished standup. I wanna know what wins Wanderlei had that where better then Chuck's wins over Randy, Tito and Vitor.
