Chuck Wepner's biopic. I saw most of it ( missed the first act ) but it's a good show IMO. L. Schreiber stars as Wepner and does a convincing job. The film isn't so much about Wepner's fistic accomplishments as it is about an affable retired pug who just can't help himself from self destruction while he has enough conscience to realize that he isn't bringing down just himself in the process and what it's like to have inspired the most famous boxing movies in history while remaining relatively obscure.
I was gonna post something on this as well man. I heard nothing but bad things about this flick but I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. Sure they could have done a lot better as far as the boxing and who played Ali, but the comedic angle and schreiber's performance not only saved it but made it very enjoyable for me. I also thought they were gonna really bury sly but I think they told the story pretty objectively. I also didn't realize how much jail time wepner did so I even learned something new. I'd recommend it to any sports fan.
