Not getting no younger, or sharper I do like the BKB but never would have booked DeGale as a potential competitor.
I haven't ever seen a purse announced by the bkfc and other than vague references to generous purses, ive not seen a fighter reveal a definitive figure either. I haven't seen a breakdown of how it differs for fighters at different places on the card but those who say it's generous are usually mains or co main event fighters. I've heard a few people sat that marquee crossover names are paid much more and are usually a one fight deal for a fight in and around their hometown to bring in more fans. That makes sense because a lot of talented former pros have clearly not taken it seriously and been embarrassed in the fight. Whether that is a clever tactic by the promoters to sell up coming talent and get people exited about the sport is also talked about and makes sense really. Frankie Gavin recently was stopped in a round when he was once touted as the best ever British amateur boxer. Surely even a very unfit aging man if that calibre should be able to climb out if bed 5 mins before the bell and be able to box to at least a half decent percentage of their peak years for more than a minute. I'm not bashing bkfc, I'm a fan and what they're doing is working to grow the sport but at what point does it become a tragedy waiting to happen if a 40-50 year old retired boxer gets seriously hurt by a well trained lad in his prime. It is getting much more skilled year by year, so it's only a matter of time
DeGale had an interview on talksport yesterday it's available on youtube. He doesn't sound great and though looks ok considering he's 39, repeats himself a fair bit and even says towards the end his short term memory isn't the best, not a good sign. Wants to fight for another 18 months on return if his BKFC return goes well, which I'd doubt. Only thing near the end says and I agree with you won't take the sustained beating in bare knuckle like boxing 10 or 12 x 3, it's lot of cuts and ko's 5 x 2m maximum. Coming back for the coin, says different but it's pretty obvious.
Just watched the interview, he shouldn't be returning to the ring. You can hear the difference in his speech from when he was younger and whether its BKB or boxing he should leave well alone and just stay retired for his health
Think that's being punch drunk rather than under the influence, and the fact its that visible for everyone to see
Just listened to his interview, pretty shocking how bad his speech is,compare that to the degale before the groves fight and its night and day. Surely somebody should be having a word with him, friends/advisors/family etc he's not 40 yet but his speech sounds like somebody in there 80's
This content is protected i heard the one on talksport...damn. he sounds so bad. but as this video and many others can show...he did talk like that. always repeating himself. himself he repeats because that is the way he talks. but diesnt looks good from any angle.
no no no no....mate this isnt how it works. this comes from a truth that has now been skewed and dragged to allow a business model to develop. one hit in that slap league killed a guy. yeah. so if we glove a boxer up he will land and take injuries home that wouldnt have come up had he been in 1 bareknuckle fight because we see don't see the damage inside the brain. BUT bareknuckle does and will kill people and it being sold as safer is unpardonable. the blows are just as concussive and devastating without gloves to deflect or repath punches. but people have and will die in bareknuckle as well. it's just that being punch drunk pre london prize rules or queensburys was rarer. more people get The Bends with scuba gear now than years before. broken bodies lie upon the beaches of the pacific of divers looking for corals, lobsters and misplaced white packages. but it just means we don't get drowned anymore. to say freediving is safer is misinterpreting the 'boundaries' and 'rules' our bodies take which is completely different from person to person. son to son brother to brother.
Thanks for posting. Browne sounds good for your average boxer, but he used to speak very well and about two years ago there was a marked difference in his speech. I hope he doesn't end up totally slurring his words. Amusing to see Ian John Lewis in there. I was astonished that he didn't immediately wave it off after the first knockdown. Gareth Davies in commentary is fantastic.
Do not know why Browne was apologising for catching him in the eye with a finger. Those things happen, and his opponent would not have apologised to him. Once he landed the right that opened the cut, he became sloppy and stopped jabbing his way in and waiting for openings. Otherwise a decent performance.
