Anyone ever see this fight. I just got a chance to watch it and I was very entertained. Mathis kicked the **** out of Chuvalo. Mathis has always had kind of a bad reputation as a guy who didnt have a whole lot of heart or fighting spirit but I on viewing this fight I'd have to disagree. Chuvalo was fighting dirty as hell: headbutts, elbows, and tons of low blows. After a couple of these Mathis went ape**** and was trying to knock Chuvalo's head off. At one point the ref stopped the fight and started to warn Chuvalo about a DQ and Mathis grabbed the ref's shoulders, moved him out of the way so he could get back at Chuvalo and continue to chop him down. At another point in an exchange Chuvalo went down in what was probably more of a slip but could have been ruled a knockdown as he had been nailed with a really nice right hand right before. By the end of the fight Chuvalo looked like a piece of chewed up hamburger. Definately an interesting fight and one I highly recommend.
I`ve got this fight and it was a doozy indeed. For a man of his size and physique mathis was deceptively quick on his feet and a very talented boxer, he landed some serious leather on Chuvalo throughout and almost everything he threw was meant to knock George`s head off. and that first round was a real fun one as Mathis just shoved the ref out of the way and went berserk on Chuvalo, never seen anything like it and the ref just stepped back and thought better than to get in Buster`s face seeing how pissed of he was at George. Chuvalo`s fight vs Mike Dejohn was another good one albeit one-sided, DeJohn got his ass kicked but hung in there to the finish line. Speaking of DeJohn his bout vs Charley Powell is notable in that Mike dropped Powell with I think the first or second punch he threw which was a left hook square on the chin. Powell went down hard and beat the count, but his legs were gone and Dejohn just swarmed all over him and and dropped him two more times thus forcing the stoppage as the 3 KD rule was in effect. DeJohn`s return bout vs Nino Valdes was another good one, he got dropped twice in the bout and was buzzed several times but like in the Chuvalo fight he made it to the end. Against Eddie Machen though he got totally outclassed and was never in the bout, Machen looked great in this fight and finally got Dejohn out of there in the 9th after dropping him 3 times to force the stoppage.
