Assuming this doesn't get too dirty on Tony's part, I am going with Chuvalo. More durable fighter.. A bit of a size adavantage.. Decent power and skill along with having the background of competing with the very best of the best...
Chuvalo UD. Galento can crack, but Chuvalo is the better overall heavyweight and has a very good chin.
I think the Beer and Cigars Let Tony down in this one, a modicum of athleticism and educated movement would always help against the dogged George, And Tony doesnt really have any, George on points or late stoppage.
I agree. While neither man was a sweet scientist, Chuvalo probably had better boxing skills, leaving Tony to have to resort to scoring stoppage or KO, and I just can't see him doing it.
Chuvalo is rough enough and strong enough to deal with anything Galento can throw at him, and can give back as well. Chuvalo wins.
What's with all the Chuvalo threads all of a sudden? First it was Lyle now its Chuvalo. ESB classic has a weird fixation on heavyweights who lost to George Foreman and Ali.
Nothing to worry about, lad Usually most thread are on ATG: Ali, Louis, Rocky, Sugar... the usual stuff However, every once and then, the Classic Forum spontaneously generates a sort of commemorative week for some 2do row fighter, particularly at the HW level. We already had "Kenny Norton's week", "Lyle's week", etc. Now it is "Chuvalos' week"
Chuvalo would probably beat Galento though. If not by decision by late tko. whatever edge Galento had in power would be negated by Chuvalo's chin and stamina.
Galento would be the one forced to move here. Chuvalo was Gibraltar when it came to standing his ground. Even Foreman, Bonavena and Frazier had to use their legs to outmaneuver him. Tony would be forced to exert himself more than usual, with less effect. Then, he'd be in trouble. George needed just one shot to drop the usually durable Jerry Quarry, and he stopped a prime Doug Jones, the first man to ever achieve that. Two-Ton could be hit, and Chuvalo would be going downstairs as well as up top. Not a particularly favorable match for Galento.
Gallento was definitely the better fighter, but might Chuvalo perhaps be a foil for him? Gallento was like George Foreman in that he did not care what was happening on the score cards. He relied on getting a knockout to win and generaly got it. That is why Arturo Godoy proved such an effective foil fopr him.
