Who in here thinks that Kermit Cintron would do good in MMA He has a good wrestling background, and he was a former World Champion
No problem. A knee injury prevented him from fulfilling it. He should definitely take a dive into MMA especially with his power and striking. If he was good enough to get a scholarship from a great wrestling program like OSU, then he shouldn't have a problem re-learning to defend takedowns.
No way. Definately not a guy i want representing boxing. He is too weak mentally. Whats he gonna do when he does get ground and pounded. Its gonna be hard to dive out of a cage....
Wrestling and boxing is an awesome combo. Control the fight wherever it goes and have the ability to finish the fight, where it goes. Wrestling is like riding a back, as is all combat sports. If Cintron is good enough to be offered a scholarship then he will know how a single leg, double leg, how to shoot, how to sprawl, turning the corner etc Sure, he is rusty as **** and is timing and reaction times off but even then, he is an athlete so his cardio, agility etc will be off the charts so he would break back in easy. Cintron like Williams is one of the few genuine prospects in boxing to MMA. Any fighter who knows a striking and grappling art already has a perfect base to work with.
Alleged Cintron quotes.... "In my junior year, I went to the district championships and finished with a 27-7 record," Cintron said. "In my senior year, I was favored to win the state title. I beat a couple of guys that were ranked. However, I went to the district finals with torn ligaments in my right knee. I lost by a point and did not qualify for the state finals." Despite the injury, Cintron earned full scholarships to Ohio State University and Wisconsin State University. He elected to accept a scholarship from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster, Pa., because it was closer to his home. "I wrestled at Thaddeus Stevens College during my freshman year," Cintron said. "I compiled a 15-3 record, won the regional tournament, and ended up going to the Nationals, where I finished 10th in the nation. Two days later, the athletic director said they were not going to have a wrestling team anymore. For that reason, they took away my scholarship. I could not afford to go to college after that."
The desire has to be there. Unfortunately, it's not likely we'll see Cintron in MMA until he can no longer make money in boxing. If Berto had balls right now, he would be making money.
