why do you think margorito was waiting for one big punch? and why are you picking cintron when your man made him weep? i'm getting a sense that you are a williams hater.
Watch the fight. Margarito was waiting for Williams to fall in so he could unload with HARD body shots. He was playing second fiddle to Williams all night. And it was completely planned. I'm picking Cintron because I believe punch for punch Cintron hits much harder than Margarito. Margarito is still my favorite however and I believe as long as he does what Margarito does, he will be on top. But switching up gameplans on major fights like the Williams fight was a bad move. And I'm also not a hater. Just realistic. Margarito against most opponents throws between 70 and 100 punches a round. His punches per round against Williams were a DYSMAL 47 punches per round by compubox stats. That is likely the lowest output Margarito has ever had, maybe barring some early fights. Williams also will not be at welter for very long. Draining off 20lbs is either gonna get him knocked out soon, or dead of dehydration. Chances are they don't like his odds at 154 because of his very open defense. But time will tell. All around I believe Margarito made a strategic error, and Williams is babysitting a belt he won't have for very long. That isn't to say that I don't like watching Williams fight. I'm always for newer faces rather than the old guys.
Correct. He opted for quality rather than quantity and it cost him. The thing is, Margarito is a strong guy but not a one punch knockout artist. He lacks the technique and the sharp accuracy behind his punches to really get a guy by surprise. So most of his work you see coming. It's something Williams was able to brace for and because Margarito limited his punch output, it was manageable. I think had he gone in there and matched Williams punch for punch, Williams would have been much worse for wear by the middle rounds. And likely would have been stopped in a war of attrition.
Cintron should finish this between the 9th 10th or 11th round. He will lose the first few rounds due to Williams being slick but eventually Cintrons power will slow down Williams and the inevitable will happen and one big blow will land ending the urban legend of Williams being the biggest threat in the WW division.
i've seen 3 or 4 pwil fights, and the guy is as exciting as hell. I just think he is there to be hit. It's tough to be slippery when you throw that many punches and are that tall. The man in your avatar, bhop, is slippery. i feel fine with him agains power, but not pwil. Like i said, this wont cause much issue with guys that dont have power, or with much smaller guys punching up at him, but cintron is only a bit shorter and has a ton of power. After cintron has eaten shots from Teddy Reid and mark suarez, i dont see him being bothered by pwils punches. On top that, Pwil is 6' 1" southpaw... sounds a lot like cintron's favorite sparring partner, Andy Lee, the 6' 2" middleweight southpaw that hits like a truck. Im not knocking PWil, i honestly believe that Pwil, Cintron, and Cotto (depending on how he looks against mosely, but i believe he will look great) are the future of this division. Great to see them fighting one another.
I going with Williams by UD or late TKO. Williams workrate and size I think will be too much for Cintron. I dont see Cintron reacting well to the constant pressure that Williams brings to the table. Williams proved in the Margarito fight that he has solid chin and I dont see Cintron causing any problems.
Winner of this fight will be the clear cut top 3 in the division, along with the winner of Cotto/Mosley, and Mayweather/Hatton. Welterweight is pretty special right now. Right now Cintron is on fire since being battered by Margarito, his offensive explosivness might be too much for the leaky defence of Williams. Williams is a very good/possible great fighter though with a very good chin, big reach, height and outstanding workrate. This one is a tossup and if Williams can handle Cintrons power then he can handle anyones at 147. I favor Cintron but only barely.
Its like a breath of fresh cannabis air when I read post like this one. You make some excellent points and seem to be totally unbiased. I myself like to see the whole picture. Observing the Cintron vs Margo fight I noticed Kermit was Introduced to real championship pressure and folded in submissive fashion. Kermit was just about the same level in terms of boxing skill when compared to Margo but their exp level was vastly different. At this stage in Kermits career he has all the tools to starch Margo quite easily but will his past demons catch up to him. Can he handle the same type of adversity....if he can execute deadly combos on the front foot rater than popping Margo on the retreat he will eventually stop the rugged Mexican in his tracks. Paul Williams is a different animal but he can also be stopped by a well schooled power puncher which Kermit may very well be. Its obvious Kermit is an extrodinary athelte who needs the right molding to become a dominate force. The jury's still out and I'm not completly sold on the guy but only a blind man cannot see the damage he can bring to the WW division if he builds the right skills and the proper fortitude.
Great fight. It's a pick'em really, but I'll go with cintron because of his power and the fact that PW like to mix it up too much. another possibility is that Cintron won't be able to handle PW's workrate and looses a UD, but we'll see.
Well, im slightly biased. I've known cintron since the day he started school when he moved to the US from PR, so my heart is on him, but i like pwil a lot, i just think cintron has the skills to beat him. i think these guys will be ruling this division for a while. I really hope people dont get down on either guy for losing this fight, because they are taking a pretty big risk by fighting one another. I think either of these guys have the best chance to beat mayweather, because they bring tools and a skill set that he has never faced. If cintron continues to improve under manny and win his fights, i think he could, conceivably, be set to face mayweather in late 2008 or early '09.
that is if mayweather would even consider facing either of these guys, or just continue to fight old guys, headcases, or blown-up lighter guys.
