Beg your pardon, old timers. Could some of you fill me in on this lightweight contender and TV fighter of the 50's?

I actually stumbled across his name while researching Shemp Howard (of the Three Stooges). Shemp - a huge boxing fan - died in a taxicab on his way home from watching Andrade win by seventh round TKO over Kenny Davis.

Also of note - he was managed by none other than Frank Sinatra, went the distance with a prime ascendant Carlos Ortiz and with Joe Brown (whom he challenged for the world title), twice knocked out Battling Torres and was stopped in his last bout by Davey Moore.

So, those are the cold hard facts. Can someone flesh it out, and give us an idea of his style (since there doesn't seem to be any easily accessible footage) and any interesting anecdotes regarding his character?

What an unexpected pleasure to see Andrade's name. Used to watch him train 'n spar at Stillman's when he fought at MSG.

Tried to adopt some of his moves. We were the same height 'n weight

I have his fight against Armand Savoie. It's a classic toe-to-toe battle with both guys extremely sharp and very busy.

Your question, IB, has me scratchin' my head. For some reason, Abner Mares comes to mind: hands high, well-schooled, accurate combos to the head 'n body, not the usual blood-'n-guts Mexican left-hooker.

Unlike Mares, Andrade was short -- fought more in the pocket 'n mixed-it-up -- making crowd-pleasing fights.
