I remember Claggett being regarded as a something of a journeyman several years ago, and I'm interested in how perspectives have changed and how he's now favored over a former world champion. I think Clagett's current winning streak, while impressive, is a little flattering. Machado of course has his own issues but he's a massive puncher who's almost knocked out everyone he's ever fought, and whom can be quite sharp with his boxing. He'll also be the taller man, with a longer reach, against Clagett, despite moving up in weight. There's also the southpaw issue. One of Claggett's last losses was to Danny Connor, a southpaw. Machado is a little brittle but Claggett isn't a power puncher... More of a swarmer with a good chin. I'm watching the Claggett/Ulysee bouts and over the course of 20 rounds Clagett couldn't hurt or wear him down, and was controlled for long periods of time by Ulysee. Yves is even more reliant on his physical gifts than Machado. Claggett keeps his hands high and tight but still eats a lot of leather. I see most in the prediction league taking Claggett by stoppage but forced to choose I would say that Machado has every bit as much of a chance at scoring a knockout. One more bit of food for thought... Machado is promoted by Cotto's promotional company. I don't think it's a given that he can't win a decision in Canada. An interesting fight that has me thinking. Anyone know if it's going to be broadcast anywhere?
I too have a sneaky suspicion Machado could manage to get away with the victory, Claggett has always been a hot and cold type fighter. It's just that Machado's punch resistance was rather dubious at 130/135 pounds and Steve is somewhat on a good streak in his last five fights. Should be an interesting fight!
