Most will probably be familiar with the article by Dan Cuoco making this claim and also the high regard in which Jofre was held by Nat Fleischer et al.

Opinions on Jofre in the all-time p4p list? He's nigh on the greatest bantamweight ever IMO.

Great fighter but never top 2 atg, i'm not sure where i would rate him, somewhere in the top 25 i would imagine but not really thought about it,him and olivares are the top 2 at bantam IMO, i actually have a slight preference for olivares

    I can't see #2 being a defensible place.

Top 30 for sure IMO, possibly top 25, but his resume isn't worthy of a spot inside the top 10.

I agree 2nd is something of a stretch; I think Ring Mag had him at about 19th in their best 80 of the last 80 years. Ted Sares ranks him as something like his 4th greatest fighter since 1950 as a matter of interest.

He was thought much higher of during and after his actual time as a fighter as far as I know, similar to Jim Jeffries.

He was considered to be every bit the equal of Robinson, P4P, decades ago.

The small amount of footage there is of him is definetly worth watching, an amazing fighter

Jofre was roundly called the best pound-for-pound in boxing during the first half of the 1960s and the best since Robinson. He was that highly thought of and i think Fleischer included him in his Bantam Top 10 something he seldom afforded any current fighter (if any)?. In 1973 Boxing Illustrated had its 15th Anniversary issue 'best in our lifetime' and Eder was #1. So he beat out some fine opposition for that title too. A fighter who had the complete package, he reckoned his stamina improved twofold when he embarked on a strict vegetarian diet.

Jofre was a joy to watch. One thing that always stuck in my mind when his name is brought is old Nat Fleisher, who saw many ATG’s in the lower weights in the 20’s 30’s, 40’s, 50, and 60’s says Jofre was as good as any bantam he’s ever seen.

I think top 2 ALL TIME P4P is a bit of a stretch, but top ten is not.

Did he become a vegetarian prior to his comeback, or sometime earlier?

Top 25 would be about the highest I'd rate him. Top 2 is far too high, can't be justified. Excellent fighter though, a true ATG and the best Bantamweight of all time for my money along with Ruben Olivares.

I would question whether Jofre is even the 2nd best in his own weight class (though he is in the top 5 IMO) let alone the #2 period.

IMO, Jofre is one of those fighters that has gotten a bit overrated based on a "reputation" created by contemporary admirers, a bit like Charley Burley.

    What "things"??

Didn't you just agree yourself putting him in the top 2 P4P was overrating him?

But M2S to question whether he isnt top2 at bantam seems a bit unfair...I rank him above Olivares but not by much and dont have a problem with people who swap them but for the life of me I cant think of someone who could be ranked over those two at the weight.
