    Shields can be annoying but let’s be honest. She’s the best women’s fighter in the middle classes. She does herself no favors with the ridiculous “I’m right there with Muhammad Ali & Floyd” stuff. That’s off-putting and dumb. Part of me realizes she just trying to sell herself bc she can’t really do it with her looks like some fighters. So she has to do with her mouth. I get it.

    I'd bet that Amanda Serrano is a bigger draw in the US than Shields.

    No question about Taylor being the bigger draw in the UK and Europe but the Serrano fight was huge not only because there are a couple of Irish in NYC but because there are an awful lot of Puerto Ricans as well. Taylor needs a big US opponent in the US to draw a big crowd whereas in the UK-Ireland she could fight Campbell Hatton and still draw huge crowds.

    Still Taylor would get better crowds in the USA than Shields does, especially if she fought in cities with a huge Irish presence

    Yeah, I'm with that. She has an annoying public personality, for sure, but she's basically following Ali and Mayweather's playbook of using extreme arrogance and bravado to, basically, get people to root against her - which logically will "put fannies in the seats" - and eyeballs on the screen.

    The problem she faces is twofold- first, women's sports, for better or worse, are just a "tougher sell" in general. Second, and not unrelated, is that she has no Frazier or Pacquiao - and also a Foreman, Norton, Cotto or Maidana, etc. - to provide the necessary high level competition.

    I personally don't get caught up in this. I neither particularly like or dislike Shields. Rather, I recognize she is, like Ali and Mayweather, Leonard or Tyson, is a high level practitioner of her sport, and hope that she is able to fulfill her promise to the greatest extent possible.
