The class of 2019 is set to be announced on 12/5 at 1pm est. Not a particularly strong year with any true locks. I imagine we will see a fighter or two get in that have been on the ballot for a while like Curry, Jackson or maybe Michael Moorer.
You dont really have to be great to make it to the hall of fame . The IBHOF is the probably the easiest hall of fame to get inducted into in all of sports .
At this point I would agree. I am not in favor of the current format where every year three fighters go in no matter what. There is definitely a bubble guy that will get in this year that some people will have an issue with. I personally think Calderon and Marquez should go in for sure this year. For the third spot I am between Curry and Michalczewski but don't feel great about either one really. They were both very good no doubt but not sure if they did enough to be in hall.
Curry maybe. Nunn? What did he really do? Beat Barkley in a rather unimpressive fight and Kalambay? Roldan and Tate?
The Kalambay blowout was an especially great win. It unified the IBF and WBA titles, or at least should have. And, Kalambay was on a tear, having beaten some very good fighters, especially Mike McCallum.
This seems like a year for smaller fighters. Marquez, Calderon and Chris John all have strong cases. I have a feeling that two of them will get in and the third spot will be a fighter like Hatton, Michael Moorer, Curry or maybe Jackson. They were all good fighters but I'm not sure they are hall of fame worthy.
we vote them in because other guys are not worthy? Mancini and Gatti were two exciting fighters and very popular.. I would think that is why. I would put Curry in before Nunn. Starling, McCrory, Rosi ,Colin Jones.
The IBHOF is a business. It's not so much about the fistic quality of the inductees. It's about filling seats and keeping the Canastota ball rolling. So, there is a lot of economic pressure to let in as many fighters (and reporters, commentators, promoters, referees, managers, trainers, corner men, etc, etc., etc. -- I could go on and on about all the hangers on. My personal opinion is that the Hall of Fame should be for the fighters and no one else) as possible. And this is okay in its own way. It's nice to have a central place for boxing fans to congregate once a year. Still, it would be the best of all possible worlds to have a Hall of Fame organization independent of these considerations to weigh the merits of the nominees in a more objective way, i. e., with carefully devised guidelines that would be strictly adhered to each year. Actually, Ring Magazine had a pretty good Hall of Fame. At least, the number of inductees was not tied in so directly to a fund-raising event. I admit this is a pipe dream. Boxing has no centrally organized, wealthy, organization like MLB (baseball) or the NFL (football) to underwrite a Hall of Fame and insulate it from the necessity of funding itself.
