As limited technically as Wilder is (and Foreman was also crude) he would have been a champion in any era and absolutely untouchable in Louis' era. Extremely tall, rangy, athletic and hits like a truck, it wouldn't be fair at all. Barring Fury and to a lesser extent Ortiz and Stiverne, Wilder's last 10 opponents were primarily high level journeymen but they still would have been serious danger men in a dinosaur era. Louis was not a bum in his era, he was a top champion. Even if he couldn't compete today his greatness in his own time is unaffected.
Ask Ring, they are the ones who removed his Ring belt the same year he fought three times and was one of the most active heavyweighs that year. But they saw the error in their ways and presented him his second Ring belt when #1 Fury and #2 Wilder faced off. Fury with ALL the belts. https://talksport.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2020/04/Fury.jpg?strip=all&w=768&quality=100

The Lineal chain restarts (if it is broken) when the top 2 meet, which they did when the #1 rated Fury and the #2 rated Wilder faced off.
It will depend on so much, For instance I rate Wilder very low. The circumstance he beat Wlad in was the worst exchange of the lineal HW crown I have seen on film John Ruiz would have been proud. His performances leading up to Wlad? they were just plain eh, to awful. Tyson has left a lot to desire. I feel as if a new great HW has to be on the horizon much in the way Mike Tyson came out of nowhere and put the "Lost generation" to rest I hope we are facing a similar situation.
Well he still beat Klitschko though. It was incredibly boring but he outboxed him by shutting Klitschko down with feints and slipped everything Klitschko threw
