Made up of fighters who belonged in this division, but fought before the super-middleweight division existed.

So make up a 168lbs super-six tounrie of big middleweights, the guys who fought at MW and LHW, the guys who fought at LHW weighing in below 168lbs. Who are the six names you would chose?

    Who is your tournament's favourite?

    Who is the dark horse?

Who are you hoping to see in the semi-finals?

    Robert Fitzsimmons
    Billy Conn
    Lloyd Marshall
    Jake Lamotta
    Ezzard Charles
    Carlos Monzon

    Tournament favrouite.
That is a very tough question as you could make a case for any guy IMO. I would put my money on Charles or Fitzsimmons.

    Dark Horses
Monzon is definitly one, I wouldnt think he would be favrouite but he is so effective he could win. Marshall also, super skilled but for some reason people dont think he has a good enough chin. I think Lamotta is probably my weakest link and I dont think he could win it but he might pick up a win or two.

    Semi Finalists

    Fitzsimmons
    Charles
    Conn
    Marshall/Monzon

    What do you think McGrain?

Maybe I should have Tiger instead of a Lamotta now I think about it

    Wow

You can pretty much close the thread. Fitz is a good bet for the semi's because of the "two points for a KO" rule, but I guess he would come up short in the semi's, out-boxed perhaps. I like Charles or Conn for the tournie, although Monzon is definitely the dark horse, though he needs the right draw - and Conn or Fitz in the final.

Not sure, there is a name annoying me that I cant think of.

Would you have Lamotta or Tiger? I'd probably have TIger now due to his sucess at Light Heavyweight. Also if include Tiger, you will invariably ask me who I got between him and Monzon.

The thing is who do you think Fitz would knock out? maybe Marshall or Charles but even then its not a certainty.

Yeh Charles or Conn for the tourny, Chares wasnt at his best at 168lbs he was still slightly green so maybe you could favour Conn on that basis, but Charles was alot more athletically gifted and hit harder.

With Monzon is who would you definitly favour over him? there is no one at all.

I think it would be a Charles vs Conn final, who you got there?

Monzon is an odd pick. His entire style is predicated around physical advantages he would lack above 160, where he basically fought his whole career.

You can argue that one all day, I personally think that Tiger is better, but if I was running the tournie, I'd want Jake. Someone who will bang the pressure on, someone who guarantees all action fights. OK you'd be expecting him to bring up the rear here, but you just flat out never know, he might crowd Conn out of it and Monzon is absolutley fascinating.

He could knock out all of them. He wouldn't, but he could. I got a whisper that he would find a way to get Marshall out of there, i'd pick him to KO Jake, even big guys couldn't swarm him without getting ditched eventually, I mean Jeffries boxed the old version early on...i think he tricks Conn out of there, possibly, though Conn is favourite there, and I have an inkling Monzon would keep it at the right distance to lift a decision, but he absolutley could KO all ofthem.

    :think

The name that is bothering you, is it Harry Greb? I think Jack Dillon would make an interesting alternate.

Hes arguably the greatest MW ever and considered a 'big' middleweight, why would he not at least have some credibility in this tournament?

And I dont think he relied too heavily on his physical advanatages sure he had them and used them but like against Mundine he wasntt he taller guy and he still was brilliant.

Tiger wouldnt exactly be in for a boring fight though. He rises to the occasion well, do you think he could keep consistency for the whole tourny?

Would be a tough fight for anyone definitly, perhaps the Abraham of the tournament?

    :patsch

    Thats the name.

Who would you replace him for? its hard to get rid of anyone as it is a nice mix of styles and fighters.

Dillon would be interesting, I know he is really highly regarded as a Light Heavyweight.

I don't see his chances as being better than Jake's regardless. Conn is beating him. Charles is beating him (ten times out of ten I think). Marshall and Monzon could go either way IMO, but I can't see him winning both, and he's in a horrible one with Fitz.

Yeah, maybe even going a bit further, you could see him gettingto the semi's as a hot favourite on a KO streak.

Forgedaboud it. Your stuck with your picks :good But like you say, it's some mix of fighters. Wowie.

    You're becoming increasingly minimalist.

Yeh, you are right, I just see him as a similar level to Lamotta.

I just dont see him knocking out guys of this calibre in 3 sucessive fights, I think he loses at leats one of them, hell they all lose once in this thing at least.

You could probably do another Super 6 with 6 different fighters and it would still be as good.
