Smooth legends isn’t with us anymore apparently? His “HD” fights were awesome man the Gene Tunney vs Dempsey one was probably the greatest piece of film I’ve ever watched to do with boxing and I’m depressed I didn’t save it but there is another channel called “Vintage Boxing” uploading high quality film I’d advise you check out. The Ellis vs Ali one is impeccable looking and he just uploaded Bowe vs Holyfield. If you know of any other channels could you drop links names and so on.

I'm very sad to see his channel gone too. His remasters were the best, he has no equal in that aspect.

I saved his second Jack Dempsey v Tunney fight to synchronize with the broadcast:

Also the Louis Walcott 2nd fight:

    And the Louis-sharkey fight:

Wish I saved the rest. He made the first Louis schmeling fight look crystal clear.

I stumbled across this very obscure guy while on a Jose Napoles marathon, he has far and away the best footage of the Cokes fights I've seen. His other stuff seems pretty good too.

I'd love to know how they do it. Are they getting original archive footage from studios? I use AI video enhancing for some of the videos I upload to my channel, but I'm mostly working on VHS recordings that were converted to digital long before that technology was available. The trouble is if you want really good quality HD videos you have to start with good quality material and spend a lot of time improving it incrementally.

Vintage Boxing, already mentioned, is the best channel as of now that I know about.

It’s mostly classic fights that most of us have already seen but the upscaling, however it is done, is great.

Great for learning, when I watch old footage of Napoles I can’t tell if he’s feinting with his right hand or moving his head lol.

fantastic corrections & enhancements of the Old Film Footage...

as I always say, "when the Film is Right, so too are the Fighters" and that proves it right there about Old Time fighters - No Diff to today, except of course they competed every other week or so... and for years. Hardmen, forsure.

Another notable thing re Smooth Legends was that he often procured the best available footage in the first place - which he then cleaned up further.

Some films that he cleaned up I hadn’t even seen before.

For a time it seemed that the Ali vs Jones 1966 exhibition wasn’t filmed - then out of nowhere the complete footage turned up on Smooth Legends channel.

For another example, he also put up fantastic rare footage of Liston sparring.

He used to upload under an actual name - presumably it was his real name - but I can’t recall that name atm.

If it comes to me, I’ll post it here - it might provide a lead as to what he is or isn’t doing now.

He put a hell of a lot work and time into restoring and enhancing the old films and it seems he received a lot of requests from other uploaders to sample his work in their own vids - and his answer was always - “no problem”.

If he could re upload them on Odyssey where they couldn't be taken down it would let people appreciate his work again without worries.

I hope someone gets in touch with him, it would be a shame for all that footage to be lost, because as you said, it's incredibly rare, high quality videos that every boxing fan could benefit from.

Yeah, not sure of the backstory when uploaders like Smooth Legends vanish. Perhaps they venture into monetary gain and I certainly don’t begrudge them that. Also, not sure if possible “rights” to certain footage becomes an issue.

There also used to be a site with an enormous collection of Ali vids - unedited sparring, (including vs Larry Holmes), interviews, docos - you name it. That site has also gone by the wayside which is a shame.

I remain hopeful that Smooth Legends will have his channel restored.

If the channel was on Youtube then it's gone for good. Youtube can be very strange when it comes to decisions to remove a channel, and there is zero chance of getting any meaningful feedback from the administrators. All they do is copy and paste stock "answers" to the enquiries they receive. I speak from personal experience.
