Fantastic series of Rocky pics...man I love this thread!!

 

Rocky great photos for me,especially the top photo of referee Ruby Goldstein
with Marciano and Ezzard Charles. A couple of years later at a boxing seminar in New England, Goldstein told me how Marciano's blows ,broke blood vessels in Charles's arms protecting Ezzard's face. Goldstein said Charles's biceps and forearms were purple from Rocky's tireless barages....I had Goldstein by myself for 15 minutes that afternoon at the boxing seminar....:hi:

 

That was what my Dad always told me about Rocky...exactly..:thumbsup

 

Goldstein would probably be the referee I'd most like to have been able to have a chat too - that's probably my favourite heavyweight title fight of all to be honest - sure I read or heard somewhere that Goldstein was quoted as saying something along the lines of "I never once had to break the two of them up in the entire 15 rounds!" Pretty amazing really when you think about someof the hugfests we get treated to these days - especially when you think that it was only towards the end of the 15th and final round that Ez Charles back actually touched the ropes for the first time in the fight!! Just incredible!!

 

Amazing performance by Charles...whe demonstated balls, determination and chin he should be given credit for having an awesome chin in that 1st rocky fight..maybe he used that chin up that night...Charles, according to a '54 yearbook that I have, said afterwards.."I wasn't thinking about the pain...pain's a part of this business"..
